Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

@danab I know who my donor was but I know the family is grieving and I don't want to intrude on them with what they might consider a trivial, non-essential question. She was a young woman who died needlessly. Knowing a lot about your donor is sort of a double-edged sword. Knowing, I now feel even worse that she died, she should not have. It truly hurts my heart to think of her and I pray nightly for her widower and family.

That taco seasoning sounds SO good but my stomach has become so sensitive to spicy things since I've developed gastroparesis. I'd love a really good taco with fresh salsa. Right now, I'd love just about anything that wasn't bland...does anyone have a recipe for great tasting bland food???

@ktracyf Like you, I am eating more "bland" food than ever. One of my "go to" recipes is a modification of risotto. I use the ration of 1 cup rice to 5-6 cups chicken broth. Set up your chicken broth to warm. Dice 1 onion, 3 carrots and 3 stalks celery. Cover the bottom of a large kettle with 1 tsp oil and saute in order the onion, celery and carrot; salting after each addition. When the vegetables are softened, add the rice and stir together. Add enough broth to cover the rice and simmer; adding broth as necessary (about every 20 minutes) to keep the rice covered. Stir after each broth addition until the rice is done. Do not stir constantly after adding the rice and broth, just after each addition of broth. When the rice is done stir in (whip) 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese and serve. I hope you like it.

@ktracyf- Good morning! I'm sorry that you have to deal with gastroparesis. It must put a kibosh on enjoying foods. I'm assuming that you have researched the "what to eat and what to avoid" so that you aren't feeling ill all the time. Are you taking medicines to help your stomach muscles work better? Adding herbs to any food, even eggs, will make foods less boring. And you can add more than one herb at a time. Also I'm learning to calm things down myself because I have very bad GERD so I use substitutes. Here are some suggestions. And if you can share what doesn't work for you, this group, I'm sure would be very thankful.

I agree when and if i know i will let them leaad a conversation. I also would respect what an any information they may gove. My hope a prayer is to develop that kind of relationship over time as dictated by them.
