Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

I am in heart failure, on a low-salt, low-fat, low sugar diet. My recommendation for anyone else on a low-salt diet: Fix sheet tray meals. You can buy a magazine or book on the topic. Tonight we're having roast chicken (small serving), roasted gold potatoes, with roasted carrots and onions. Easy to prepare on a jelly roll pan and seasoned with Herbs de Provence. Do not eat reduced calorie frozen meals; they're loaded with salt.

Electric can opener? mercy gracious no. At least not if I can help it. Pull tops!!!
My sodium was high so doc cut it out. She said you’ll get enough without adding any. It’s been normal every since. Most of what I eat doesn’t have labels, meat, fruits veggies. Lentils, beans, raisins don’t have any sodium. I get sodium free tuna and turkey for sandwiches. Don’t know my sodium limit. I could probably eat more than I do.
Take care,
Jake

Good dinner suggestion. I can’t have anything packaged, canned or frozen. I have cheated though, I put some canned tomatoes in my lentils.
@danab
Hi Dan,
Have you ever tried making homemade mayonnaise?
@jakedduck1 Canned tomatoes do come salt-free. I make spaghetti sauce with it, and with all of the other spices, we don't even notice that there is no salt in it.
JK
I also use salt-free canned tomatoes and they are excellent.

Obviously I’m not as active as I use to be. No more swimming 5 miles a day. Multiple shoulder surgeries took care of that. I can’t stand very long since I quit the Fentanyl but I get the housework drudgery done, do all errands and take care of my Mom etc. I’m not the lazy slouch you seem to think I am.

Wow, wish I had some of his genes. I’m envious of your hubby. Eats anything, no meds, healthy goes to the gym. I can have steak or any meat but only 4oz. I had some chicken and veggies (Jodee’s recipe)
Jake
@jakedduck1 I wish I had his genes too. I tell him I married him for his longevity genes. He does take ibuprofen occasionally if he has a headache, but that's pretty much it.
JK
@contentandwell Wonder why some people have good genes and most of us don't do you think a past life is to blame? If so alot of us didn't fair so good haha
