Rib pain under right breast and back after eating

Posted by alicat @alicat, Jan 27, 2019

Since September 2018 I have had right rib pain in front and in my back. I have been checked for kidney stones and gallbladder issues which all came back normal. I do have an ulcer without bacteria that was almost healed (Beginning of December 2018) I am on prescription Nexium, gave me antibiotics just in case. After I eat (today scrambled eggs and 1/2 biscuit) I gag, sometimes I do throw up a little. Any ideas? I'm tired of hurting and not eating.

Hi everyone! After many months and many tests I finally have an answer. Yesterday I had another CT but this time with contrast and barium. I have a benign tumor on my 11th rib, right side. I am meeting with a thoracic surgeon and he will decide if it needs to be removed. I am so relieved. Thank you for all of your kindness.

I'm so glad to hear that there is a reason for the pain and you can deal with the problem now in the best way possible! I'm sure you are relieved to have an answer.

Let me start from the beginning. I went to my GP for rib pain( November), he did the Murphy test for Gallbladder and it was positive, so I was sent for a ultrasound and HIDA scan which both came out negative for Gallbladder, then I had a CT with contrast (important info here, I did it at a small town hospital, less than 7000 residents). The CT showed no Gallbladder problems but my GP still thought I was having Gallbladder issues and sent me to a surgeon who said no way I bet you have an ulcer, did an endoscope and there was a big nasty ulcer. But I kept having this rib pain, the surgeon called me a month (mid January) later to see how I was doing (we have a friend in common so that helped) and he sent me to a gastro Doctor who had me do a CT scan with contrast and Barium and blood work,(done at a bigger hospital in a bigger city with better CT scanner) I did this yesterday and got the results in today. The tumor as I said is benign and the Doctor is sending me to a thoracic Doctor and I go from there. I will keep you updated. Be diligent, its your body not there's so push! BTW: I wear a tens unit I got at Walmart and it helps mask the pain.

And I should mention there are a lot of nerves in this area which causes pain in other areas of the back, like below my shoulder, that is classic Gallbladder, the body is weird!

Never at night, but as the day goes on it would get worst. So I bought the tens unit and it helps. Because I had the ulcer at the same time as the tumor I cannot say if I had ulcer pain or not. I never have pain on the left, mostly the back side of my ribs which radiate to my upper back below my shoulder blade, sometimes in my upper hip. I hope this helps
