Metastatic Lobular Breast Cancer in Stomach

How are you doing, JA? Has further treatment beyond Faslodex been recommended?

Hi @colleenyoung, thank you for the reply. I read many of the pages of the discussion link you sent, but didn't see anything about stomach metastasis (wishing there was a search function to narrow things down a bit). With more time, I'll read more of the pages. Given the results of the recent scans, the recommendation is to consider a stomach resection. I'll be meeting with a surgeon to discuss. We are also waiting results of genomic testing to determine if a different drug is more appropriate. Until then, will stay with Faslodex and Arimidex (that I've been taking for 5 1/2 years).

@ja5747, in my search, I didn't find any instance of stomach metastasis either, so I'm glad you started this specific discussion. I also agree about the limitations of the site search. We are currently in the discovery phase of improving the search function. I will add your feedback to the development team.

I found this research article (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5604170/) to help me understand a bit more about lobular breast cancer and stomach metastasis. Seems like it is quite rare, but is most often associated with invasive lobular breast cancer and often mimicks early gastric cancer (EGC). How did you discover the stomach lesions? Did you have to go through additional testing to confirm if it indeed was metastasis vs a second cancer of the stomach?

Thank you for the article. I had not found that one and it offered new information I had not yet heard. If you come across any other articles, please pass them along. In my case, a CT scan was ordered because of new gastric issues and it revealed an area of interest. Biopsies from a subsequest endoscopy identified the metastsis.

First, so sorry to hear about the mets. I too had lobular cancer but so far am lucky and no spread (3 years now, caught at an early stage for me). I am very, very Type A and so I did and continue to do lots of reading and research. One of the first places they mention that lobular might spread is the stomach. Like ductal breast cancer it can spread to the bones, etc but lobular seems to like our stomach. If I see anything of interest that might help you I will certainly pass it along (I run across some interesting studies and such now and then). In the meantime, big, big hugs and good wishes. I'm so very sorry you're going through this. You're not alone....you have another lobular gal in your corner.

Six years after initial diagnosis of estrogen positive tubular and lobular breast cancer the lobular has metastasized to my stomach. I am being treated with Anastrozole and Ibrance. Looking to speak to others with the same challenge. Especially interested in knowing anyone who is on Ibrance.

Claudia, I can imagine that hearing that the cancer has come back was a shock after 6 years. How long have you been on Ibrance? Any side effects?

@claudiamaria so sorry about your new challenge. 12/4/2020 I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in my bones. (Original diagnosis ducal carcinoma-no lymph node involvement-tamoxifen for about 7 years) After MBC diagnosis,
I started IBRANCE & letrozole-January 2020. Tolerating both-my side effects are insomnia & fatigue & arthritis type pain.

Thank you! I just completed the third month of Ibrance. I can't tell what side effects I can attribute to the Ibrance because I'm also taking anastrozole. I have acute gastritis and esophagitis and hypersecretion of acid. I don't know if it is from the treatment, the cancer or the fact that I cannot eat very much because I have metastasis in the lower two thirds of my stomach and it has obstructed the gastric outlet so I don't digest well and my stomach doesn't empty. I'm rapidly losing weight. Fatigue, nausea, headache and huge heartburn.
