Sarcomatoid Mesothelioma lawyer and law firms

Posted by ddmalon @ddmalon, Jan 2, 2019

I have Sarcomatoid Mesothelioma. There are a lot of asbestos litigation lawyer and law firms that want to help me get a piece of the pie. Any suggestions on how to pick a good one out. I live in Rochester, MN, if that matters.

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Lung Cancer Support Group.

I talked with my primary care Dr. He said don't go there. So I won't.

Hi @ddmalon, welcome to Connect. May I ask why your doctor recommended against litigation?

You'll note that I moved your message to the Lung Cancer where you'll meet others with lung cancer and some who have experience with mesothelioma, like @islandmomma @lisakuehl @shortshot80 @richm

DDMalon, how are you doing? What treatment have you or are you getting?

It would be good to connect with law firms that support and promote the good advocacy work of the organizations Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation or the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization.

Just wondering if resurrecting this 4-year old thread will yield any new insights.

For the record, we are not a litigious family, but my father's mesothelioma (biphasic pleural mesothelioma) was most likely caused by asbestos exposure during his service in the navy and/or the space program.

Now that he is 85 and terminal, he is close to needing full-time care at an assisted-living facility, which is very expensive. A little bit of money from one of the established settlement trust funds would go a long way toward that care.

He was reluctant to file for anything, and waited about 9 months after his diagnosis before doing so. We contacted one of the big firms that advertises on TV a lot. They were very responsive and very knowledgeable, but once the process starts, everything (filings, discovery, depositions, decisions) moves very slow. Now that Dad is in hospice care, we're discovering that there might not be any payout if he passes before the legal proceedings play out.

Has anyone else gone through this process, and if so, how did it go?

Many thanks,
-mm
