Hi @edmeek1, Good question about whether or not to have a lap band removed or not. I'm tagging other members who may have some experiences to share on lap band surgery, including @kdawn32@grandmar and @opie12
Ed, you mention that you've had great results for the past 8 years. Have you experienced any of the complications (see the list in this article http://surgery.ucla.edu/bariatrics-lap-band-removal) that would indicate that you should have it removed, such as slippage, infection, heartburn or problems with the esophagus?

Welcome to Connect, @josephine18. Could you share a few more details about your son? When did he have the lap band surgery? How is he doing after the removal?

Occasional heart burn but very modest and not often at all. As long as I eat and drink slowly, all is well. Beef does not seem to agree with me but I understand others have this issue as well. There are occasions when I feel I can only eat a very small amount and other time I could consume a horse which makes no sense.
I went for my annual checkup last week and had lost another 6 pounds for a total of 88 over the years. My weight is good for my height, build and age (78).

No problems so far. My physician checked me and said not to worry and if a problem comes up we will deal with. He said the incidence of problems was about the same as the sleeve. All have risks.

I would have it checked. My son had one and his intestine had grown around it. Took time to remove it!

Thank you! I have had mine 9 years and no problem so far. What are the symptom I should look for? Was removal satisfactory and is your son ok?

I had it removed it moved and caused my stomach to erode into my chest. Could have died
Wow, @sandym65, that’s quite the story. What led to your having the band removed?
I have had no complications with my lap band.
Colleen, could you tell me what symptoms suggest a problem? I have had none but want to be on watch.
