I am curious about the oil mentioned, I had the same surgery as you will have. I was younger, took Premarin .625 tablets, one AM other PM, now use mainly the Premarin cream.
For hotflashes I do feel that Vit E that is NOT the synthetic helped, it costs maybe $2.00 more per bottle that the synthetic. You would look for:
d-Alpha Tocopherol ( not the dl-Alpha) I always get Nature Made brand- don't know if we can mention brands?
Best wishes with your surgery and hot flashes.

Just looked up the oil, don't think we can get it in our state.
Read some positive things about the oil, however.

Hi, @bonnieboo – Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. As you mentioned you will be having a hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and will go into menopause — yet are allergic to oestrogen/estrogen and progesterone and cannot take hormone replacement therapy (HRT) — it makes sense you’d be looking for appropriate alternatives.

CBD isn't a replacement for HRT, but rather a substance that is being investigated as having potential to alleviate symptoms of menopause. I found one article talking about research along these lines https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/322078.php. You’ll note in the “Takeaway” section of the article it says, “At present, there is very little reliable evidence to suggest that CBD oil can treat the symptoms of menopause.”

Here are some Mayo Clinic resources that discuss alternatives to HRT:

- A discussion in-depth on HRT, including a section about “What Can You Do If You Can’t Take Hormone Therapy?”
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/menopause/in-depth/hormone-therapy/art-20046372
- Information on non-HRT treatment for the signs and symptoms of menopause, listed in the Treatment, Lifestyle and Home Remedies, and Alternative Medicine sections of this article on Menopause https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/menopause/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20353401

I’d like to invite additional Connect members who have mentioned menopause into this discussion to talk about any alternatives to HRT they may have used to manage menopause symptoms, like @mang133 @windwalker @cindylb @kathleentischer @catherinelewis and @jenniferhunter.

@bonnieboo, what has your gynecologist suggested for an HRT alternative, given your allergy?

Hello Lisa, thank you for all the information I will look at all and read thoroughly.
I'm waiting for an appointment to come through from the menopause clinic to discuss options, I really wanted some information to have an idea of what possibilities there are out there and so I understand some of the things they may discuss.
A couple of people had mentioned CBD oil helping with some of the symptoms .
Brittle bone is a worry so finding something to help with this would be great.
If others can input that would be fantastic.
Many thanks

@bonnieboo I was wondering if the estrogen you are allergic to is a commercially produced pill which isn't bioidentical. Bioidentical hormone replacement is made in a compounding pharmacy from soy derivatives. I thought I would mention that in case that would work.
