What can I do for iron deficiency anemia?

Over 20 years ago I had a vagotomy/antrectomy due to ulcers perforating my stomach. Now I do not process iron. My iron numbers are very low as is my iron absorbtion; however, my ferritin levels and hemoglobin are normal and there is the problem. Because of the normal readings, the doctors are afraid to order an iron infusion. I am also a lung cancer patient. Does anyone else have this problem? What is being done for you?

Hello @testlady, you may notice I moved your discussion on Anemia and combined it with another one with the same title. I did this so Connect members already discussing Anemia could see your message and have a chance to respond and so that you could see some of the previous messages posted. I'd also like to invite @reny, @bonniecanby, @cmdavis88, and @hklass to this discussion as well to share their experience with anemia.

Hello @testlady,
As it has been a while since you last posted I was wondering how you are doing. Have you found an answer to the problem of not processing iron? How are you feeling these days?
