Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

Thank you very much Linda. It helps to know people care. Because of the severity of my Epilepsy I have always lived with my parents. We were extremely close. I’ve always feared when my parents would be gone, although life is definitely different I am getting use to it.
Thank you for your condolences.

Today I am grateful to see another start of another year. We watched the Rose Parade in its original broadcast, albeit from a new channel.

I am including a picture of how we play with Lego (r) type things in rural Oregon. Yesterday we sorted and stacked over 3,000 lbs of delivered firewood into the shed, plus cleaned up two dead trees the power company took down for us on Monday. They were in danger of knocking down power lines this storm season.

@gingerw

I would love to do a day of that kind of hard work and then sit down to a hearty dinner and later have a bourbon old fashioned by the fire.

Cheers

@imallears Mary, I was surprised how long I lasted, given my knee issue. I dosed myself with acetaminophen, CBD tincture, and topical capsaicin cream prior to starting the morning out. My husband and I stacked a percentage on the back porch for easy access, the balance in the shed. We got a real good rhythm going and had it done in about 3 hrs! It's been a productive two weeks of his visit, doing a lot of projects around the house. He had beer later, I had flavored water.

@becsbuddy just do as I do, leave them for the whole 12 days of Christmas! I’m pretty traditional but I also love the cheeriness of the Christmas decorations — lots of garlands, etc. The house seems so barren when I take them down.

I do enjoy the holidays. I am thankful they are over. Still waiting on enough energy to get back in the saddle again.
Happy New Year!!
