Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@lioness how about these newer, fancy LEGO sets. My grandson loves them!

@parus

@gingerw Yes, I was advised it takes time. Why of course!!! Skiing-you are a hoot. Ha ha!!!

@parus Will you really be skiing? If so I am very jealous. My son teases me when I mention my problems with my hip and my knees telling me I need to get better before we visit him in Denver in February, but it's been a lot of years since we skied. I actually met my husband skiing and we went to Aspen on a delayed honeymoon -- we were married in July.

I had never heard of a rhizotomy so I googled it. I'm glad you are getting relief. That must have been painful.

I thought everyone might appreciate this video about gratitude that I ran across today. It also helps you look at the world like an artist and see the magic in every day. Enjoy!

@jenniferhunter A relaxing soundtrack + meaningful words. Great combination to go with the photos and videos. I have been to that rocky outcropping at beginning of the film. It is awesome in person. Thank you.

@becsbuddy How far are you from Denver? We arrive on Thursday (the 31st of January) and leave on February 4th. The focus of the trip is to watch the Superbowl. My husband started joining our son to watch it together about 10 years ago and has gone every year except a couple when he was not comfortable leaving me alone due to possible HE episodes. I joined them two years ago since his fiance was there anyway. Before that, I figured it was a nice father-son bonding time. I don't know if my son will be staying home with us on Friday and Monday, if not then I would love to get together on one of those days. Often my son works from home so that is probably what he will do and it would be fine for me to leave. We plan to go to the Denver Art Museum on Saturday to see the Monet exhibit which is there until Sunday. @jenniferhunter posted about it on Facebook so when I saw that there was a Monet exhibit I knew we had to go. It will be a fun weekend. I love to visit my son and my daughter. She is in NYC so when/if I can walk well again that will be a great destination.

@contentandwell I live in Boulder, about 1/2 hour northwest of Denver. I usually take the bus to Denver’s Union Station. Would love to meet you if things work out! Becky
