Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@teresa, I am seeing a specialist tomorrow for my optic nerve. The PCP did a retinal scan and found some changes in the optic nerve. I was wondering if anyone else knew anything about these things. I Googled everything Mayo Clinic had but stopped after four or five different conditions and treatments.

Since learning of this situation I have rarely strayed from my strict keto diabetic diet. I need my sight and changes in the optic nerve is a good motivator to keep the blood sugar as normal as possible. I will not be making any decisions regarding treatment until I have had a second opinion from a Mayo Clinic trained opthamologist. @Colleen Young, @ginger, Volunteer Mentor, and everyone, love and light,
Mamacita Jane

@mamcita, Good evening. I am not @teresa but I have been living with optic nerve issues for about 10 years. At one point, I had a laser treatment on both eyes when the optic nerve didn't pass a glaucoma test. Now I have been getting pictures of the optic nerve to look out for changes that are caused by neuropathy as well. Wishing you well tomorrow. Chris

@mamacita- I wish you lots of hugs and luck for your appointment. I have no history with this but Mayo is the place for a second opinion for sure.

@hopeful33250 Teresa, this is a great article and it makes perfect sense. I know that I can perceive things about another person even when no words were spoken, and what we project outward as happiness does affect other people. I had not thought about that being an electromagnetic field that others can sense. This is so interesting.

@hopeful33250 Great article. Yes, I feel better when I express gratitude. It doesn't have to be a big thing, being able to help someone because I can do something physically or emotionally or financially to help. And when that act is appreciated, my gratitude skyrockets even more!

Today I am grateful that yesterday I was able to get an appt for some dental work to be done in advance of upcoming treatments for this latest round of cancer. While there, I was able to educate the dentist and assistant about kidney issues and organ transplants. Win-win!
