Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

Good morning- @parus. Aren't they something! You probably know this but their ancestors were the dinosaurs. They still look prehistoric. I wonder if anyone else is watching them? They are eating breakfast now.

I totally agree on the Power of Gratitude. I would be grateful if you could share this small article, Dr. Ron Rubenzer

@gingerw Grateful you have felt validated in your path as it helps so much. I have found the zentangle (what my line play has been called now) approach useful and relaxing. The neck pain keeps me from doing very much. Hoping for help with pain.
Are you still planning on becoming a CZT?
Congratulations on becoming a mentor!!

@parus Thank you so much. Yes, the training is now less than 6 weeks away. I am excited, nervous, and ready for this adventure! Can you use a tilted surface to ease your neck strain, perhaps your drawing pad propped against the edge of a book?

@gingerw I have tried many things. I use a tilted surface and still need to limit my time drawing. Hope the upcoming injections/nerve burning will provide some relief.
I am happy you are continuing on with your zentangle adventure and journey.

This morning, as I am about to have open heart surgery, I am profoundly grateful for the gift of life and the happy life I've lived. Though I've survived profoundly sad times, I am still grateful for all the good times, my devoted husband and family.

@harriethodgson- I am sure that I speak for all of us when I wish you the best of luck. I'm sure that the operation will be a huge success. Please, when you feel up to it, come back and tell us all about it! Merry

Grateful I can still keep trying to find some answers for help with chronic pain that is worsening. Having more x-rays and a CT scan of the cervical was more information for the pain specialist that I have worked with for over 4 years. My being proactive and being referred back to this pain specialist was a good choice for the ortho doctor as I have a history with the specialist who does the injections. Being allergic to steroids presents some problems. Now talking about burning nerves. It is a start-again.
I am behind with things here at community as needed to slow my pace. Miss y'all.

We missed you as well, @parus. I've been absent for a while myself and getting back in the Connect mode. I'm so happy to hear that your perseverance has paid off. New starts always bring about new hope. Will you keep us posted about the nerve burning? When will t his happen?
