Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@gingerw Thank you for the update as I had been wondering if you were still doing zentangle. Glad you could attend a meeting.

Today I'm grateful for a gorgeous day and a delicious seafood feast on the water as an Easter celebration. Like Merry @merpreb - I'm hoping that all of us - whatever religion - find joy and amazement in this beautiful spring weekend! Mine didn't start all that well - I had a couple of GI procedures that left me feeling wrung out and exhausted, but I'm making a comeback today and glad to be part of such a supportive community.

@gingerw - so glad to hear about your Zentangle and totally impressed at your commitment to drive so far to participate in your Zentangle group. I do a little of that myself just for relaxation and I LOVE seeing what others accomplish. You inspire me!

@debbraw @jakedduck1 I love New England but I think I am in the wrong place right now. Sort of dreary today, temps in the 60s, with some showers, rain tomorrow, and in the 60s all week. I really need some sun and warm weather.

Hi JK,
If you want to get rid of your goose bumps California can easily accomplish that. Suppose to be in the mid 90’s here in a couple days, oh goodie ☹️ I can’t bear the heat or the California cold. Of course what I’d consider cold, you’d probably consider a nice spring day. What’s a whinny California sissy to do? Move to Hawaii I guess.
Hottest it’s ever been where I live was 113 degrees in 2006. Furnace Creek in Death Valley is 160 miles away (but by car you have to go 400 miles) and the hottest recorded temp on earth, 134 degrees.
Don’t forget your sun tan lotion, lol

I am grateful I can mostly remain grounded in reality.
