Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@lioness Like any endeavor, for me it is sometimes hard to be motivated. Recently, the founders of Zentangle, Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, did a 12 Days of Zentangle, viewable to anyone on You Tube. Here is what I did, my most complex and biggest project to date. Also, I follow a couple of bloggers who post a weekly challenge.

I'm very, very grateful today for the positive outcome of my knee surgery. The surgery was last Tuesday (1/29). Compared to my previous TKR in 2017, this time I'm stronger, I have more flexibility and I have less pain. On a little bit of a downside, I'm still having nausea and fuzzy-drug-brain - I guess this has to do with the anesthesia wearing off and the strong meds I'm taking (in my real life, I only take a one-a-day vitamin - so all of these new drugs have been a shock to my system). Anyway, I'm on the road to recovery and can't wait until my brain fog clears enough so I can catch up on posts here. (I did see some beautiful artwork that made me smile!)

@debbraw So good to hear from you. You've been missed. Take your time and don't rush the recovery process😊

I don't believe anyone is without talent, @jakedduck1. You just have to keep searching for it😊

@contentandwell Jk, thanks so much for replying to my text. It means a lot to me that you took the time to do so! I don’t think I can work. I am mostly in the house and have to contend with fibro fog!

Hello @karen00
So sorry to hear of your financial problems. The "no money" situation is terribly worrisome. Do you or your brother qualify for unemployment or other forms of public assistance? Have you talked with a social worker, on the county level, to see what might be available for you in the way of low cost apartments or financial help?
Keep in touch with Connect and let me know how you are doing.

@hopefulgirl Thank you for the reply. My brother had unemployment and it ran out. I tried to call a social worker her, but I got a recording saying to leave the info and they’d get back with me in THIRTY DAYS! Things are bad right now. I am in the valley!

@karenn00- I want to chime in too and hope that you and your brother's affairs can straighten out quickly. I agree with JK- there are a lot of "jobs from home"! Go for it. Always wishing you better days ahead.
