my Dr wants me to get a ABBOTT nerve stimulator implanted, and I am so undecided as all actions up till now have failed to help stop the pain, there is one that might last 10 years on low, and must have battery recharged each day with a belt, and the other with 5 year battery that must be replaced in 5 years, I use a tens unit now and it helps a little but they say the wires all the way to the spine is a lot better, I read up on i and they are ok for MRI, has anyone had a ABBOTT ProclaimXR implanted? Please let me know as I must make my decision soon...am 85, had this pain since surgery in 1983, cant be up more than about 12 minutes without terrible pain,, I do need help.
Thanks for your post. I'm currently in the process of deciding between Boston Scientific's Wave Writer and Nevro's HF-10. Unfortunately, the doctor who's doing the trial has not provided much guidance. 🙁 I think I'm going with the HF-10 and your post validates this direction.
Hi Patrick, With the Nevro, did you have to charge it on a daily basis? If so, how long of a charge and how friendly user was it?
Patrick,
Thank you and everyone for your honesty. I have been hesitant about getting my implant. It is scheduled for Sept. 20th. It has been a long process to get here but I read a lot of negatives about getting one. I did have a one week trial and the day after I wanted it back. It wasn't a metrical cure but it did help. I have to remember this is the last try or I will have to have another fusion surgery and the Dr. is not real fond of doing that yet. I am also not thrilled of going through that recovery again. I was hoping that this would be easy pezy and in a couple days I would be back walking on the treadmill and back to a normal life in a month. I am starting to wonder after reading some of the other posts I have seen. I hope you or someone can tell me otherwise. I really need some reassurance that this is the right thing.. It is an HFX stimulator and everyone is saying good things about it.. fingers crossed.. Thanks..
Thank you Salmag for your input about Nevro. I have lower back, leg and foot pain. I tried Boston Scientific about 2 years ago . I got with partial pain relief but I couldn't take the Parathesia, so I had it removed after 2 months.
Another pain management doctor suggested I try the Abbott DRG. I tried it but didn't get the 50% pain relief required to get a permanent one installed.
I am scheduled by another doctor to try the Nevro on March 13th. A five day trial. I am told that you can get MRI's with this device. I will keep all informed. Good luck and God Bless.
Thanks for your post. I have severe lumbar stenosis which causes severe cramping in my calf muscles and throbbing. My Back dosen't hurt so much, it's mostly my legs.
Hi Salmag,
I have had the Nevro HFX for about 2 months. I haven't been trained formally on using the remote control, but I think I understand it. There are five (5) programs and seven (7) layers of something. Maybe intensity? I have read where the 7-scale isn't actually intensity, but rather different configurations of the leads in your spine. So, I am still confused about what the seven levels are. Questoin: Can you tell me how you explored the different programs and levels? Do I just randomly try different combinations until I hit on something that makes the pain lesson? How long did you wait on a particular combination to see if it does anything? On the one hand, I heard it should be near immediate; and on the other hand I heard the previous settings take time to "wash-out." I am learning everything and everywhere I can. I just discovered this wonderful site today. It would be interesting to me to hear what your experience has been with the remote. Thank you! Rob
Thanks again for all your good information! I really appreciate it. I’ve been reading as much as I can about it on the internet. MayfieldClinic.com has an excellent explanation of these devices. I still am unable to find any mention of this by someone who has been helped by this for arm and hand pain. It’s scary to me to have the wires and leads put in so near my spine. I don’t want to come home in worse condition. I trust my doctor and I will ask him a lot of questions when I see him. I may seek a second opinion from another doctor in the area who also implants Nevro devices.
