COPD: Should CT scans be done along with x-rays?
Many take CTscan. Is this something that should be done along with xrays. Neither my GP or Pulmonalist have ordered one. It was last done 14 years ago.

Wayne- I am mad at her too! You have to be firm and push for this! Come on, you are a vet! A soldier, you can do it! This is beyond bad medicine. If you have breathing problems go to the ER or clinic. Tell them what this all about. To not have a pulmonologist after a year is criminal. Maybe by going to the er you can get some help more quickly?
thank you. I am going to call her Monday, and if she does not impress me I am going to ask for a real doctor, not a nurse practioner, thanks again.
Wayne- you are more than welcome. Please do not leave us not knowing what happens! Keep in touch! Not being able to know what is going on and not being able to breathe as best as you can is very jarring. Best of luck!
today I called the va and told them I wanted a ct scan and see a pulmanogest---- spelling is bad,--- they have not called me back yet.
Hi Joan and Wayne,
Good for you to call VA to request a CT scan and an appointment with a pulmonologist. I'm tagging a few additional people on this discussion, members who also have COPD, like @abster93 @kamama94 @aldrichgirl and @waterboy. Also, in this podcast of Mayo Clinic Radio, Dr. Paul Scanlon, a pulmonologist at Mayo Clinic, talks about COPD treatment and prevention.

thank you so much for the information. I did subscribe to the page for broadcasts. are you a nurse, or work at hospital. again thank you dear..
Keep Calling Wayne!
Wayne- No I'm not either. I am a mentor here. However I have 21 years of experience with the medical field due to my COPD, lung cancer and various other annoyances. I also research a lot, ask a lot of questions and never take an unclear explanation as an answer. I also have a big mouth when it comes to my own healthcare. I'm certainly lucky to have had some top rated doctors who take care of me. Keep in touch! Don't let them not get back to you! Any chance you can go private for your medical needs?
Colleen- Thank you for this link. I have never heard of Dr. Paul Scanlon. I will need to check out the Mayo podcasts for sure.
well thank you for all your information, yes I can go to any hospital now . it is called the choice program
