how to take antibiotics?
this is my second time taking the big three antibiotics ,last time was 2015 when i also had lung surgery (left upper lobe) for cavities caused by Mac. Anyway last time i took my antibiotics before bed which worked well . Now the nurse said better to take 2 in the morning and strong Rifampin in the evening . Starting today so i’m curious friends how you take them . Also does it really matter much if you take them with or without food ? Your input would be greatly appreciated . thank you ,norah

@norah Hi Norah. OMG! What an incredible post! Thank you for your inspirational words.
@ling123 @suzyqueue @windwalker I couldn't open either, got the same message.
@suzyqueue @margiebanks @windwalker OK, I think I have figured out a way to get to get to the posting that Terri wanted us to see. You will need to remove a part of the link starting at "bookmark....." all the way to the end. Try this link here (it's the first part of the link after the deletion): https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/113996/. Hope it works for you.
Thank you so much! Will try it as soon as I can!!!
That works Ling. I love how you persevere to get things done! (Irene)

@ling123 Hi Ling! Thank you for straightening this link out so that it works. That is what I adore about this group; our members are always there to make sure that nobody gets left hanging. Thanks again!
I have been on the 3 MAC antibiotics for 3 months, after also being treated for pseudomonas. Like Norah, I had a cough for many months, fatigue, fevers, weight loss & felt life was passing me by... After 3 months on the meds I am beginning to recover some energy (still hit a wall of fatigue around 3-4 pm though) but I deal with side effects of the meds the day after every dose. My doc recommended taking the dose in the evenings with yogurt, plus a daily probiotic, but I wanted to be sure I was getting the best possible effect, so I tried the NJH method of 2 in the morning and one in the evening, with nibbles of cracker...Wow! Sick all day & still feeling bad the next morning. No way I could stay on this regimen and still have a life. So I am back to all 3 at bedtime, at least 2-3 hours after last food, and just modified to have only a little cracker with it. If that means a little less effectiveness, and a little longer on the meds, I can deal with it.
By the way - probiotics - having been on many antibiotics on the way to diagnosis of MAC, my gut was already really messed up and I was taking probiotics to try to fix things. On a long trip, I ran out and after 5 days I couldn't wait to find a health food store that sold my brand - I am a believer now.
So my takeaway, it may be best to take the antibiotics as recommended by NJH, but it if that doesn't work for you, find a regimen you can live with. They cannot work at all if you leave them in the bottle because they make your life too miserable.
