Complications/symptoms after Gallbladder Surgery
Hello. I am a Male 32. I had my gall bladder removed 4 days ago. Since I have had strange pains and feelings. Nausea after I eat Everytime. I realized after it's removal my stomach will have swelling, but it feels like there is a Large Knot just right of my Belly button. I also have had severe Hunger type pains. It's the only thing that I can compare it too. Very bad and painful pains that resemble Severe Hunger pains. I have also had headaches since the surgery. Mainly the right back of my head, it feels like there is a Knot under my skull almost. It doesn't hurt severely, but it does hurt sometimes worse than others. And nothing seems to help. Almost a throbbing pain. And of course pain across my entire abdomen. Top to bottom. Side to side. Which is to be expected I guess. But I have have more pain in my right chest and under my left breast off and on. What of these are to be expected and not?

@fourof5zs Don't know how much you want to travel for head pain treatment but I can suggest the Michigan Head Pain Clinic in Ann Arbor. Dr. Saper is a world renowned neurologist who is the head of it. They did get a handle on my migraines.
@mpsteed If pain is on left then it more than likely is nothing to do with your gallbladder. In that area it would be either your stomach or pancreas. .. or possibly intestines. You might want to do a search with your search engine.. Google, Bling, etc. for “referred pain chart“ and look for images of it.. the chart might help you figure out what is causing your pain.
@mpsteed One has to advocate for one's self.. I don't know where you had your tests and surgery done, but at Mayo MN they are very knowledgeable, current, work as a team, and I could not be more pleased with the Doctors I have had there. At my local regional Clinic in Central Iowa I have very please with most of them.. but I do not go back to those who did not pay attention and stay within the standards I set for my own care... I get a referral to Mayo MN at the slightest question.. Do not be hesitant about going to the Administration of your local Clinic and make them aware of your disappointment..
@theache I'm wondering what your provider said about the pain? Did they mentioned phantom pains as @fourof5zs did?
@suzanne2 Thank you. That is too far for me.

Hey ZeeGee, after reading your message, I feel guilty for complaining about my headaches; you are suffering daily. Hope you find relief soon, constant pain is difficult beyond explanation. I went back to you neurologist and she ordered complete bloodwork to ensure that I am not anemic or have blood sugar issues. My PCP added Lopressor 50mg to my high blood pressure routine and it seems to be helping the headaches. They are less severe and I feel more energetic than before. I will let you know what the bloodwork shows, if I can ever get it done. Darn Covid has all the clinics and hospitals on guard and they are blocking people from getting routine procedures done. I can't get anyone locally to draw my blood, guess I will have to drive 300 miles to the city and then drive all the way home.
@theache
Please never feel guilty about complaining of headaches or any other pain. It is yours to deal with and it is always good to talk with other people about it. It gives you more ideas to talk with your doctors about and hopefully be blessed to find a solution. I am glad to read your headache is relieved some.
With my doctors here in Albany Georgia (our county, Dougherty had one of the highest covid rates in the USA from March through May) I have been able to get my yearly physical with no problem. They have lab, x-ray, and ultrasound available in the building my doctors are in. So my lab work was not a problem. To make an appointment if sick you are screened via a phone call by a nurse. If you have any symptoms of covid you are sent to a special area of the building. They moved part of the lab upstairs so as to space patients out. Of course mask are required, temperature taken, and hand sanitizer as you enter the building. We carry hand sanitizer with us. The doctor's office building has the hand sanitizer dispensers throughout.. but they are empty most of the time. We try to be careful about touching door handles and arms of chairs. I can still get up from a chair without pushing up with my hands .. even with my back flare up.. which has calmed after the injection in my sacroiliac joint. I had pre-op for thumb surgery in June through the hospital.. their off campus facility.. and they had protocols too. The wait was not near as long as it used to be. I hope you do not have too far to travel.
When I cannot get relief of my headaches on my own I ask my family doctor for a Toradol injection. If it seems to be coming from my back he will sometimes add a Depo-Medrol injection. Usually Toradol 3-4 times a year and the Depo-Medrol once a year. If I could take ibuprofen or even aspirin I would probably do okay most of the time.
Pain is difficult to deal with.. it is important as to how you choose to deal with it mentally. Some people choose to go to into a deep depression with it. I try to calm as much of my pain as I can.. I realize I cannot get rid of all my pain, but I can get it down to bearable and enjoy life. I do think headaches are one of the hardest to deal with.. I read there are over a hundred types. That is why it is so difficult to figure out the cause.
Best of luck in finding even more relief. Yes, keep me updated.
ZeeGee (that is what my grands started calling me and so everyone else seem to follow suit 😄)
I am 9weeks out also and have a lot of the same symptoms as you
I actually asked about phantom pain! I just got a scowl.
After 3 yrs of every test known. I came to the conclusion a nerve was knicked during my gallbladder surgery. I am still numb from under left breast to spine . The stabbing burning, spasming, finally eased up. I started gabapentin about 6 months ago and that definitely worked. I have never been so disappointed in the healthcare system. Let me know if you have any questions!
