Ongoing Chest Pain

Posted by kttormoen @kttormoen, Oct 17, 2018

A week ago, I woke up at night from chest pain. It was pretty intense and I thought it was heartburn. I took Tums, which always help, but they didn't help. The next day I went to my doctor. She did an EKG and it was normal. She prescribed Omeprazole for GERD. Even after days of taking it, I do not feel better. My chest pain is constant. It's minor but it moves around. For example, it is in the middle of my chest right now but has been on the left side and then the right side today as well. My cholesterol is normal, I am a 28 year old female, I am not overweight, and there is not history of heart issues in my family.

Sometimes I feel like my heart is fluttering. I've also been very tired and a bit dizzy. I am not sure if part of the cause of my symptoms is anxiety, but anxiety attacks don't typically last for days on end. I have a hard time focusing on anything lately because of my symptoms. I feel shaky too.

Please help me. I am not sure what is going on and I feel like my doctor doesn't think it's a big deal.

So do they believe your pain was a result of bronchitis? Did you have a cold or the flu?
You really shouldn’t ignore chest pain though.

I'm so with you! I have a heart monitor on till June 28th. I do stress test on Monday...which I dont think I'm gonna make it through that test without passing out. Ya my left breast has been hurting now as well. Anything I do I'm out of breath. I then finally see a cardiologist on the 12th. Its been hell just wait oh wait. Just relax take asprin. Its just an anxiety attack....I'm like excuse me!! I had chronic pain for 5 years and didn't take anxiety meds and went to counseling. It ended up being endo in my uterus. I dont have that or my cervix/tubes. If you feel bad you should go in Im rhinking I should I don't think I can make it till Monday.

I hate how the doctors tell you it's anxiety first, and then ignore the tests they should be doing given the symptoms we describe. I think my primary care doctor put my life in danger.

I’m surprised they want a stress test while your still having symptoms of bronchitis.

When my otherwise very healthy husband was young like you, he had a cold that developed into pleurisy. He was off work for 2 weeks. It can be very painful. Here is information on it for you to check out: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pleurisy/symptoms-causes/syc-20351863 All the best!

Being a 28 year old woman with no family history of heart disease the chances of your chest pains being heart related would be very rare. Chest pain can come from many other causes. The fluttering is probably ectopic heart beats either pvcs or pacs and probably caused by your anxiety over the chest pain and nothing to worry about if it is. However it is always best to get check out just in case and it will help ease your anxiety. You might see about getting a stress test or echo stress test. I doubt any doctor is going to do a invasive procedure like a angiogram at your age and probability of having heart disease. Hope this helps.

Your exactly right. I’m 37, and in the last 2 1/2 months I have gone thru so much testing 6 ekgs, stress test test, ultrasound of heart and X-ray. On top of that I have countless other procedures done. Everything coming back fine. It bottles down that I am suffering from severe anxiety and visceral hypersensitivity. Basically thinking something is wrong when it’s not. It’s been quite a process and I’m still not a 100% yet but you have to remain to keep positive.

I can't remember for sure if they did the CT. I think so but I could be wrong. My memory is not very good since SCA. My older brother got checked after my episode and everything looked good but then he had another test for calcium levels (I'm not sure of the name of that test) and they were high so that's how they found out he may have had a block and they did an angiogram and he did. I'm not trying to scare anyone out there but I do think it's important to be your own advocate and even if you're a young female, things happen. I was in great health. Never smoked, hardly drank, watched what I ate, exercised and very type B personality. Heart disease is not just an older, white male problem.

I totally agree. Women can have heart attacks without any traditional risk factors. Mayo Clinic is researching SCAD heart attacks which mostly affect younger women. I would suggest to your Dr that they do a CT angiogram or a CT or MRI of your heart to look for blood vessel abnormalities. I had an artery dissection like this.

No, that is the wierdest part. It doesnt happen when i do anything specific. The pain feels ,rarely stabbing, and usually feels dull. Like when someone grips a part of your body real hard. I think its right under my third rib, and right where it starts. Cant say if it is the rib or behind it.

The only thing i noticed yesterday is that, when i really make myself upright (i usually dont stand very upright cause i am sitting alot, im working on that) it eases off. It might have been a coinsidence but im not sure cause i also dont ever feel it if im lying down or when practicing HEMA where i gotta stand upright.
Also never felt it 2-3 hours after waking up. Might be that i dont notice it but that is what i felt. And again its not unbearable. I can easly just forget about it when im doing something.

And thanks for moving it here, im new here so i dont really know the layout well xD.
