~ Difficulties Finding a Job ~

Posted by Barb @amberpep, Jul 22, 2018

I didn't know whether to tack this on the end of my original one or what to do .... so if it's in the wrong place, please fix it for me.
I'm about at the end of my rope ..... I hate it here, looking for a part-time job but although they they don't discriminate because of age, ..... right! But when they ask when you graduated from high school, it doesn't take much to figure that out. I'm 73 which some of you know. My apt. is a mess and I don't care, I see each of my girls once a week, and the rest of the time I'm here - hiding out. I have my pup, but at 7 months she's still pooping on the floor ... I don't know what to do anymore about that.
Got up this AM in that dark, black, hole, feeling like I was covered with a heavy wet cold blanket. I've been so desperate at times, I've even thought of calling my X to go somewhere. Most of you know he only lives 20 miles from here, and since he's been here almost 9 years, he's the "king" of grandfathers ..... me? I try, but he sees them several times a week and they totally love him. That's fine ... it's just another example of how I don't fit in.
Supposed to rain today ... I hope it does .... I could sit on the deck and let it rain on me .... proabably feel good.
I just don't know what to do anymore. I have 1 friend here, but she is the type that would say, "just put on your big girl panties and get moving." Easy to say if you have not been there. I wish I could go to the private hospital up where I came from and be taken care of for awhile, and get away from all of this. So much drug dealing, a man threatening to commit suicide, which the police were able to "talk down." ..... I try to be nice to everyone, but most seem to think I have an ulterior motive. So, I stay here. I keep wondering, how long Lord, how long? Maybe soon. I'm so done with this.

@amberpep, I'm passing through, in a sense, checking some posts on Connect. I just saw your post from this morning, and wanted to drop by and say. "HI".
Did the sun come out for you today?
Abby, I am not a 'dog' person. In fact to be honest, not a pet person at all. I tolerate my granddaughters 2 cats when we visit her house. I have a question for you - Does your puppy sense when you are feeling really down? Sometimes a therapy dog does sense things, but I am curious (or nosey as my sons would say). Just wondering if he has a natural sense for what you are feeling?

@amberpep T'would be nice if we could find a place to fit in. So much traveling along the periphery. Lot of the same where I live. Surely was not I had in mind for these senior years. Sorry you are in a hard place.

Just saw your post...my dogs know when I change moods. It is sad to see them so sad and me sad too.

Hi, @amberpep -- thinking of you. How are you doing?

Hi @amberpep I just saw your message dated 07/22/2018, and since this is the only information I have regarding your situation, I know from experience that hope will help with your feelings. I see where several friends have responded to you, and I see this as a positive sign. Being human is simple, but we must do everything we can to complicate our lives in order to remind us we are alive. If I had a magic wand, it would be sent to you for a fast recovery, but as far as I know, a wand doesn't exist just as magic pills don't exist. I pray you are feeling better and that you are taking each day one at a time. Your mental friend,

Hi amber pep! I’m a senior lady too, so I am curious enough to do a little research on possible areas of employment for us “cougars”.:). Have you contacted local schools? They hire seniors for crossing guards. Also, stores such as Costco have many seniors promoting food and other products at their kiosks. If you have access to publishers, proofreaders are always needed. Local libraries hire seniors to man the information desks and book checkout. Find a list of focus group organizations in your area. Many conduct focus groups online. If you have experience to qualify for any of the many subjects they research, you are paid for your participation.
In my community, house sitters are very much in demand. Usually you stay in the house, water plants, take in mail and keep the house looking occupied while owners are away. If you enjoy pets, those sitters are paid even more.
I empathasize with the limitations of anxiety — I too have issues with this difficult challenge. I sure hope this helps you a bit and that we all return to good health together!

Oh Abby, i am so sorry you are feeling so depressed. I am also going through depression and Anxiety and I am 72. I have had problems for years and been able to take meds and get it under control. This time around, I am having a hard time. My doctor said that sometimes when you get older, it is harder to control. I just want you to know that even though we have never meant we share a common bond. I care what happens to you and hope you will keep us in the loop. I can tell you are in a very bad place right now. Do you have a doctor you are seeing? I hope you do. It is so important you have someone with knowledge that you can check in with.

I am so sorry you were in this dark place. I have been through this many times in my life. Hang on to God as he hangs on to you. Thank you for reaching out and letting me know where you’re at. That is one of the hardest things and give yourself a pat on the back for this. Ask that the light of Jesus be shined on you. Talk with your doctor and or counselor and be honest as you can. At times like this I ask that others touch base with me to make sure I get through the day. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
