Anyone take Lyrica for fibromyalgia and pain?

Posted by mmak @mmak, Jul 19, 2018

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few weeks back after a long journey of pain and uncertainty for 29 years. It looks like I also suffer from social anxiety disorder(this I just see from the symptoms I have, not yet diagnosed). Now my Doctor has prescribed Lyrica, I have been reading up on its reviews and most of them are very scary, has anyone used it before or are using it, please advise on it.

I am taking Lyrica equivalent for last 7 years for nerve pain .I reduced dosage to minimum ie Pregablin 75 , one per day.My Suggestion,Take as per Docs suggestion for 3 months.Start Exercise , Yoga , Meditation regularly.Reduce all Sugars drastically.Go for natural remedies and reduce dependence on Lyrica.I wonder whether you can do this in USA? Best is go to India and take Ayurvedic treatment.May Be I can help coordinate.God Bless

Hello @mmak. I'd like to invite @sandytoes14, @chipper, @samie, @mamacita, @keb0504, and @wsh66 to this conversation to share their first-hand experiences with Lyrica for varying diagnoses. You mentioned that you have not had your social anxiety diagnosed, have you discussed this with your medical provider? I am not a medical professional, however, because medications affect each person differently, it is important to discuss all of your symptoms and concerns with your provider before starting a new medication.

@mmak I too have fibromyalgia. I am presently on Lyrica for the overactive nerves and pain in my muscles. I have been on Lyrica two different times. The first time I had no side effects, I took 200 mg daily. I'm talking the same doseage now but I have gained 20 lbs over 3 months. As @JustinMcClanahan stated, medications affect each person differently. If you get reviews from those who had "bad" experiences please keep that in mind. Give it a fair try. I could probably bet that your anxiety may influence the reviews you get. Do you have an appointment to see a doctor for the anxiety?

Hi Justin, thank you for your response, yes apart from the orthopedic specialist I'm seeing a psychiatrist, I have only seen him once, going again today, so I will talk to him about the social anxiety and lyrica. I have not yet started on the lyrica so I really do not know how it will affect me, but the best thing will be for me to start it and see, hope it helps.

@sandytoes14 ,thank you for your response, yes I am seeing a psychiatrist for the anxiety, going for my 2nd visit later today. I think the best thing would be to start on the lyrica as per doctors orders to take one per day and see how I feel.

I use Lyrica for neuropathy. 300mg x day. It works quite well. The Neuropathy was caused by Chemo, I don't know if that matters. It's a great drug but very expensive.

Dear @lioness
I had trigger point injections in my neck about six weeks ago. It was the first time in many years I was able to turn my head to the side and move it up and down, it was delightful!!
Are you still taking the Vicoden? I am on Percocet for pain. Would you please let me and all of us here at Connect, how you do with the injections?

I have been taking Lyrica 75mg twice per day for 3 months for chronic pain in my thigh, groin and hip.I can only walk on crutches and can't sit but have to lay down. I take loads of pills for my blood (warfarin due to Aortic valve replacement + clopiwin due to 5 strokes) for anxiety (urbanol) for depression (cillift) etc. I am terrified of what Lyrica can do to me and tried to reduce the dosage by not taking my evening dose. 2 hours later I was screaming with pain. How can I get off this please? I have been to 5 different doctors - in the beginning they say they will fix me and in the end they say - stay on Lyrica. I am in so much pain but they can't up my dose cos of kidneys and I don't want them too. I am allergic to so many things from aspirin, penicillin, ibuprofen, codeine etc so there is very little they can give me. BUT I can't stand the pain! Any suggestions please???
