@ihatediabetes, I’m so glad you started this discussion. I “ran” my first 5k last year. While I’m proud of myself, there were speed walkers who finished faster than I did. LOL. Never mind, I did it! Do I like running? Not yet. But I’m still doing it. Like you, @ginaquilts, I find running a bit boring, although I don’t mind walking. That’s odd, isn’t it?

I’m a walk, run, walk type runner. I followed John Stanton’s method of running from his book “Running: The Complete Guide To Building Your Running Program”
https://www.amazon.com/Running-Complete-Guide-Building-Program/dp/0143176099
According to his method, you never run for longer than 10 minute segments, followed by 1 minute. That made it easier for me.

IHateDiabetes, I’m envious that you have a whole team of people helping you get ready. Is your race this Saturday? As in tomorrow? All the best. Can’t wait to hear how you do.

I'm eyeing up the Zumba classes at my local gym. According to the advertising, it is suitable for all levels. Other women my age seem to cope with it and surely it would be totally engaging.

I love Zumba classes! I'm signed up for one (and a ballet class) starting August 20. I'm hoping I can remain upright and not get kicked out of class again for being a liability risk. A good instructor will tailor the class to all levels, with options from low impact to more advanced. It can take a few classes to get comfortable with the moves. Let me know how it goes.

I will. I am a bit shy about it but I think the musical part of it will be good for me. I will place myself right at the back!

Zumba and then Ballet. You must be in great shape! They say exercise is the miracle drug, Without the Drug.

Oh my, I wish that were true. I am just now starting to get back into shape. I haven't been able to dance for nearly two years due to medical malpractice. My PCP at a large HMO in Northern California insisted she could handle everything and wouldn't make referrals to specialists. A raging kidney infection went on for nearly two months, causing a lot of nerve damage, including balance problems. Even though I was told the nerve damage was irreversible, fortunately most of it has resolved and I'm ready to test my dancing shoes once again. (Doing a happy dance!)

I like that “Happy Dance”.

I have great faith in the power of careful exercise and physical therapy to rehabilitate us. You will soon be dancing in the streets.
