That’s about the same as a central line and it is very uncomfortable, however it your neck shouldn’t hurt that long...hard to say he may have nicked a nerve

Hello ca426. Thanks for your reply. I agree. My neck is still hurting today. I think a nerve was injured. I wonder why they don't go thru a vein in the groin? I think it might be due to the longer amount of time a patient has to be in recovery afterward. If they use the neck, especially without sedation, the patient literally walks out after the test. This way they can test twice as many patients or more in the same amount of time.
That miight not be a good reason though.

Monday I had my 36th heart cath, i was so broken hearted to learn that my pressures are back up to 92! I was diagnosed in 2001 at which time my pressures were 125. My pressures have been a yo-yo for a while and then we finally got them lowered to the mid forties. Over the past 6 months I feel like I started declining, short of breath, swelling and most of all wanting to sleep 75% of the day. I am on 46.5 NG of IV Remodulin, 10 mg of letaris and 50mg of Adcirca, along with lasix, medications for neuropathy in my legs and feet, pain meds, medication to help me sleep and across something for depression and panic attacks. I’m wondering what PCW, and MPA, PV and PA stand for? I always thought the Pa pressures were listed with PA, but that’s not correct evidently, because my doc said the pressure we 92, which is what is listed under MPA. Also can some one tell me what the normal numbers for cardio out put (co) and Cadiac input (Cindy) are? Sorry to post under someone else’s discussion but I still can’t figure out how to start a discussion thread. Thanks so much

I had this procedure done. I told both the cardiologist and anesthesia personnel that I do not want to be in pain. They increased sedation when they were inserting the catheter and allowed me to awaken more when needing to exercise. Once during the procedure I remember saying, "I'm too awake and it hurts." I was immediately put under again. I am so sorry you had this experience. My procedure was done at Mayo Rochester which to me, is the best medical center I have ever been to. I live in Florida and traveled for an assessment and diagnosis. I hope your pain resolves and that they were able to give you important data after going through this.

i did, no pain during the procedure.

I had this done and experienced no pain during the test, just apprehension. After, my neck was a little sore for a few days, but nothing to get alarmed about. I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience, you should discuss this with your physician.

@ca426 Sorry to butt in here but In 96 I had my heart catherization and it was put in from my groin didn't hurt at all I wondered why they are going through the neck now . I would think that would hurt more .

Im a heart transplant patient and had a dozen or so heart biopsy's and had very little pain the part i did not like was the initial numbing shots but after mu 4th i think i got a prescription cream to apply about an hour before the procedure. That helped a lot and I was at Mayo Phoenix and the drs there were very good at making sure i was numb. The only other thing was the catheter insertion felt like pressure for a second bit not really pain. I would talk to your drs and ask for that cream. Its a type of lanocaine but prescription strenth

Im a heart transplant and had both a few thru groin due to clot in neck and i like the fact that thru neck i get to leave right away and not spend 3-4 hours on my back. Mine were mostly heart biopsies but had a few right heart caths also usually during the biopsy. Also the pain for me was about the same like i posted below the cream helped
