What is the difference between bursitis and hip pain? I saw a doctor and she said I have bursitis but now I also have hip pain.

Have had MRI and xray with in the last week both OK. More than one bursa in hip doc says if one removed more may become inflamed so I had shot given several times and it worked. Hard to find bursa except by xray or MRI or feel. He is now retired. Had back shot for arthritis, muscular and pain in hip and leg last month and another one 26th. Seems to work so far, will see by next week, can have more. Hurt leg in PT pool doing exercise in November not been back. Doc says I need to walk in pool start again 29th. Recuring pain 50 years except when I walk alot.

I had both hip and bursitis pain . So I had hip replacement but noticed I still had the bursitis pain . Told my hip surgeon about it and he just said “ yeah some people get that “ he does not believe in shots , so I went to Utube and found exercise to do for the bursitis and started doing those evyday and that pretty much took care of it . Bursitis can be very painful when your trying to sleep

My sister suffers from a lot of joint pain due to arthritis. She sometimes uses a cream called biofreeze. It used to be only prescription, but now can buy over the counter

Also, try Arnica gel. I get some relief, especially in my hands, from this. Other rheumatoid patients have had success with it.

Bursitis comes with hip pain. I developed it after having a ball replacement on my right hip. Surgeon and arthritis doc both gave me a cortisone shot which helped. You can usually find Bursitis by MRI, xray or sometime by just the doc feeling for pain. After both of those docs retired I quit taking cortisone and started using ice pacs at night. My regular doc ordered me a generic Voltaren Gel through my husband's prescription insurance. 100g $3.35. I usually use it at night before bedtime but have on occasion used it during the day. I have Pseudo Gout in my wrists and it works for that too.

I was given Voltaren for my thumbs but recently decided to try it on my hip pain all the way down to my ankle. It does ease the pain quite a bit! The cortisone shots are losing their effectiveness.

Voltaren gel or pills. Can't take the pills allergic. So you are lucky.

I began having bursitis in both shoulders at 18. It is an inflammatory problem. in college (culinary) I took nutrition. I learned about foods that have anti inflammatory properties and foods that can aggravate inflammation. I have used this information in my diet and have had less problems with all of my inflammatory diseases. Less frequent and less sever pains. I have still needed meds and procedures for these problems. Diet is not a cure all but something that has supplemented the medical. Full disclosure, I am a professional chef. I have no medical training. If interested you could talk to your local Nutritionist for advice. Still talk to doc. about inflammatory problems as they can help with the acute and long term treatments. Good luck and best wishes.

Thanks....Have a ton of food allergies which over the years I have automatically learned to avoid but if I can find a nutritionist without a doc's orders I will give it a try. Maybe even with.

PT people found bursitis both sides while in treatment for one hip replacement in 2004. Since surgery have had a problem walking on cement. Horrible pain in hips and thighs. Any ideas to help beside cortisone shots and sleeping on ice packs? Thanks.
