What is the difference between bursitis and hip pain? I saw a doctor and she said I have bursitis but now I also have hip pain.

Good question.
I'm bringing @mrstarbaby into this discussion. Mrstar also posted recently about having hip pain and bursitis.

As Lioness said, bursitis is inflammation of the bursae, small, fluid-filled sacs that cushion the bones, tendons and muscles near your joints. Pain is a common symptom of bursitis. Here's more info from Mayo Clinic https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/bursitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20353242

@deyo5656. Did you doctor mean that you have bursitis pain and pain from a different cause as well?

I have had buristis in my left shoulder on and off since I was about 23 yrs old. Cold weather typically brings it on. It is very very painful.

I too have had some bad bouts with shoulder bursitis. Like you the cold would cause it to flare up. I found that soaking in a hot bath or using a heating pad on my shoulder really helped. For a few years now, I have been getting bursitis in my hips. Injections seem to work for the hips.

Does anyone know if some clinic is planning a clinical trial of stem cell therapy for arthritis hip pain?

Mayo.org has a lengthy list of trials. I find it a good place to check.

@edithmiller I keep a supply of hot patches always in the house. Plus i have a heating pad.. Even living in Florida air-conditioning will bring it on. If I am somewhere where the air is blowing on me.

My bursitis has a tendency to return time and again. I was just told yesterday by a PT person it shouldn't be doing that but when I ice it at night it helps tremendously.

Since I have a vacation house in Florida, I understand the use of air conditioning and ceiling fans. It seems there is something always making my hips sore.

My bursitis keeps returning too. The doctors at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville told me that this is not at all unusual and they give me injections for it.
