MAC and Fatigue

Posted by macspouse @macspouse, May 23, 2018

My husband's 2nd episode of MAC is in remission; after 6 months of Azithro., Etham. and Rifampin; sputums are negative, bloodwork essentially stable. He has been taken off all three for a week, because of excessive fatigue. Any help would be appreciated.

@macspouse Hello. I am sorry that your husband is feeling so dragged down. It really stinks when the spirit wants to go, but the body's not willing. Unfortunately, that comes with our disease and treatment. I sometimes use ginsing with royal jelly. It comes in little botttles and I buy it from the Asian supermarket. It costs about $9.00 for a box of 24. It gives me indurance without any kind of speedy, jittery side effects. It is a tonic made from ginsing root. The Chinese have been using this for thousands of yrs. The royal bee pollen is a super energy packed nutrient from bee hives. I also take Adderall (.05 mg) to boost energy and concentration. That is a very low dose, but it does the trick for me. Before using either, you should run past the doctor. The ginsing is usually safe to use, but still, ask the doctor. The Aderall is a controlled substance and hard to get a script for. I have drs who believe a small dose is ok if it the benefit is great. Which it is for me. It gives me energy to move my lungs better (I have a totally flat and stiff diaphragm). Plus, it makes me happier to participate in life more. In other words, a better quality of life makes it worth being on it - to me. How long of a period did your spouse go in between the initial infection and tje reinfection? Have you read the 'How to avoid reinfection' in the Discussion threads? Do you know where to find them? Please keep us posted.

@windwalker Interesting to read about your experience with ginseng and royal bee jelly (syrup). These things have been used to boost energy and immune system for centuries in China. I have never needed to use them myself. But I have been buying ginseng for my mom. Wisconsin produces the most American ginseng. I prefer to get my mom the power form as it is easier for my 97 year old mom to use on daily basis (adding it to the soup, etc.).

@ling123 Thank you for the feedback. I didn't know that Wisconsin was a big producer of ginsing. I bet it does help your mom to keep going!

@windwalker The Asian ginseng is different from American ginseng although the two look very much alike. Chinese prefer American ginseng because it is milder than Asian ginseng. The ginseng produced in northern Wisconsin (specifically Marathon County) is mostly exported to Asia.

@ling123 Interesting that the Chinede prefer the milder. I guess that is good if you have heart issues. I prefer the Panax becausr it is a bit stronger. If I want milder, then I only drink 1/2 of the vial.

@windwalker The Asian ginseng is not for the elderly for sure. I don't think the quantity would make the difference. It is the effects to the body no matter the quantity. You are not supposed to use large dosage with either type of ginseng.

@ling123 Hi Ling. My vials come pre-metered. I assume that those are safe doses. Will read up more on safety for elder use. If you come across some printed material on it; will you please post it here? Thanks!

@ling123 My 86 yr old aunt used to drink ginsing tea. She lived to be 91.
