Adults On The Autism Spectrum
Maybe you were really shy as a child. Perhaps you took home a huge stack of books from the school library, read them, and returned them the next day. Or did your best friend find you crying in your closet, unable to answer the question "Why?" At any rate, your life could be traced to the Self-Help section of the local bookstore. Unfortunately, most of the books were not much help. ADHD seemed to fit, at times. Your shrink said you might be Bi-Polar, although she wasn't really certain. All you knew was that you rarely fit in, anywhere. One day at work, it hit you square in the face: I don't speak these people's language! Really, it was like you were all playing this game, and everyone knew the rules but you. You couldn't tell a joke, and you never "got" any joke your co-worker tried to tell you. People started getting annoyed with you, because you had a memory like a steel trap. They didn't appreciate it when you called them on the carpet. Who knew? This was my life, and worse. I finally aced several tests that pointed me to the answer to my questions. The Autism Spectrum. Guess what? Little kids with Autism grow up to be Adults with Autism. Diagnosed late in life? This is the place for you!

@smilie Your posts will be seen by a larger audience that has similar concerns that you express, when you post in groups and discussions that follow depression and anxiety [in this case]. I see you are posting in the Depression group already, and this is a great start. What are your plans today to address your depression and anxiety? Will you be looking into getting an appointment with your doctor, and working on getting outside for a short walk even if it's for 2 minutes?

Hi, @smilie, how are you feeling today? From the posts I have read, it seems that you are presently suffering from anxiety and depression. I am a current member of that club, and I gave good news for you.
You can be free of the everyday, unrelenting walking through a swamp kind of living that anxiety and depression foist upon a person. I have battled both since I can remember. Not too many three year olds plan how to do away with themselves.
If I had it all to do over, at a younger age than I am now (currently I am a seasoned senior citizen) I would study and review the well trained really empathetic Psychiatrists and counselors who actually know what they are doing and care about each of their patients.
I would then make an appointment as soon as possible. I would make a list for the medical professionals telling them exactly how my life used to be before anxiety and depression. I would make it clear how I felt now. And what I am unable to do now.
I do not give advice. I simply speak from experience. If you feel like you cannot hold on any longer, go to the emergency room. Life is beautiful when anxiety and depression are put in their rightful place. Under our feet! These conditions are signals that there is a disturbing lack of sufficient chemicals in our bodies that are essential for our survivsl. Just as important as insulin or heart medicibe.
Don't be ashamed. It is nothing to be ashamed about. You are to be commended for trying to get the support you need. We are here for you!
Look up Mental Health on Mayo Clinic Connect. There are groups for all of us there. People who have been where you are.
Will you take good care of you and come back here to let us know how you are feeling?
Love and light, my friend.

then as I did can I recommend being referred to a clinical psychologist or psychiatrists and was placed on a mood stabilizers and anti depressants after I tried to commit suicide last September 2018.my dad was Bi polar and my mum was paranoid schitsophrenic and I am autistic . I would also suggest seeing if you can make an appointment to talk to someone at mayo or discuss and chat . cbd oils will temporarily help as well as lavender and franckinscence essential oils rescue remedy and a herbal from a naturopath to help stabilze moods and or green peppermint dandelion or chai teas also help . more healthier foods and less processed foods
@smilie can I recommend of all the sage advice . follow Mammacita advice and Lisa Lucier and gingerw they are all wonderful and brilliant .I am more of the bog standard male autistics we tend to get blunt and sigh a lot .
@sirgalahad Your thoughts and opinions are highly regarded, please don't degrade yourself!

@sirgalahad, you always think of things to tell someone in need that no one else has mentioned. You are a treasure and I will not have you downgrading yourself in any way. You have tons of education and experience, in so many areas. Thank goodness. For you.
May I say that it is a hot July day outside. Especially hot since we are in Georgia, where the heat index was a 110 yesterday. My phone has been acting crazy over here. It will be good to be back home. I left my Autism catalog at home. When I finally get there I will be able to give you all the names of the two books I want to read. I'm excited to thimk.of us reading the books together! So y'all will have to help me out in selecting the first book for our group book club. I think it will be fun for those of us who want to get the books. And for those who don't, we will still have lots of good times discussing what we find.
Signing off for now, my little chickadees.
Love and light to all of you!
Mamacita
