Anxiety and Panic Attacks
So many of us have suffered for anxiety and panic and I would like to share something that has helped me . In my Recovery group I learned that
nervous symptoms are " distressing but not dangerous i.e." NO DANGER." If I ever feel myself getting anxious I repeat those in my mind-
it is a "secure thought " and helps me to relax and avoids the escalation of symptoms. It takes a little practice but can make a big difference. I would love to hear if any of you find it helpful too.

Put on some lights, walk around a bit and if necessary, take anti anxiety med.
Hi, @mattie, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.
I believe you are saying you're going to try Lorazepam (Ativan)?
NO I stopped taking my Prozac and now just take Klonapin..(sp),,,very nervous and talk so fast but feel better...need something else to slow down the above. Klon helps but not enuf.
@mbabkk My PCP gives me a tiny prescription of Ativan, to use as needed -- about 10 pills a year! That has worked out fine with me. My anxieties are always tied to something specific, plus I only use these at bedtime so my whirling mind won't keep me awake. So far, so good.

"NO DANGER", those two words brought me through many panic attacks. Best medication for me. Thanks for sharing.
Hello @eastiegirl
I appreciate your adding to this discussion. If I understand you correctly, are you using the words, "no danger" as a mantra that you repeat when you are feeling anxious?
I look forward to hearing from you again,
Teresa
I try mantras, prayer....may sound nutsie but listening to "sidewalks of new york" by Chris deBourgh and his calm songs help me a lot when I am in the car. I have wondered about music therapy for a long time...anyway, that is in the car. I talk so fast and it is like I cant slow down....embarrassing.
this is the best info ever. thank you and bless you.
@mbabkk Makes perfect sense to me. As I have mentioned, I use Ativan but only on a very limited basis. I try to not use it because I want to make the tiny amount my PCP gives me last, and so far I have been successful at that.

when I had a panic attack Tried to meditate , watch TV but MY BP went up to 300 & blood sugar went up to 290. Thats an emergency one can not ignore. My attack was caused by going off Xanax for just 3 days Damn now I feel I can not go without it My MD never warned me about this !!
