Stop smoking panic attacks.

Posted by littleonefmohio @littleonefmohio, Mar 28, 2018

I am hoping someone can help me with this. I have been trying to stop smoking again. I thought I was doing good, like I always do. I was wearing the smoking patch and have been on them for over 2 weeks. Yesterday I had a panic attack. This seems to happen every time I try and quit smoking which takes me right back to smoking. I thought for sure I would make it this time. Does anyone have any suggestion as to what to use to help me with these panic attacks while trying to quit? I was on Wellbutrin before and it help me to quit but a month hit of being on it and I started getting very mean and bad thoughts so had to get off of it. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Hi, I know it is not easy to quite smoking but it is possible. I quite after 10 years of smoking, I smoked 20-30 cigarettes a day and noticed that I was not fit anymore, bad cough in the morning and the smell. I knew I had to do something, so I told myself I wanted to quite smoking "not forever", but just for a certain time, for me it was 10 years. Consequently, if I don't like the 10 years without a cigarette then it was ok for me to start smoking again. This idea which I had always in my head helped me a lot. It encouraged myself that every day that passed without a cigarette, I was closer to that day that I can smoke again. In addition, I stopped going to bars, no alcohol, coffee or anything what I used to do with a cigarette. Also, I started walking/running in the morning at least for 30 minutes. I think after going through that for 90 days which was not easy, I "never ever" would have put a cigarette in my mouth. Actually, I even became a marathon runner, trekker in the Himalayas and did do many things which I couldn't have done as a smoker. After quitting smoking I realized how beautiful life is, how much stronger I am, can do and appreciate so many things in life. I wish you all the best, just be strong...you can do it!!!

@pranas Good for you! What a great idea for motivation! I am glad it worked so well and that you have reaped the benefits of such an enhanced life! I have also heard that your senses of smell and taste return and are more enhanced after quitting smoking.

Hi Christel- Good for you for quitting, although I find the process you used very risky. I think that giving yourself permission to one day chance another or more cancer is a dangerous goal. It's playing Russian Roulette with your health. Just try and keep in sight the reason why you wanted to quit in the first place! Why go back there?

Hi... I would like to point out, that there are more ways and methods to quit smoking, every person is different and has to pick the method they feel is right for them or recommended by their medical team. My way was just "my success story" it does not apply to every person!

The reason for me to make the comment in this group is to encourage/help people ... there are ways and methods to quit smoking, if it's a patch or medication ... just do it ...it is well worth it ... but never give up!!!

Yes, definitely taste and smell become much more sensitive ... after quitting there are only good things which come out or came out for me 🙂

@stressmesseddepressed Thank you for your advise. I had made up my mind to quit. I was feeling very good about it and said to myself I will make it this time! There is nothing here to remind me I needed a smoke. The panic attacks is what happened. Everytime I make up my mind and try to quit after a couple weeks or so I get these panic attacks. I have put in a message to my doctor. I get mad and upset when this stuff happens because I feel so much better when I stop and then my body does this and tells me not this time either! Very discouraging but I will not give up!

@littleonefmohio Just thought I check to see how your doing? How is the quitting smoking coming along? Have you tried the ginger candy? I'm eating some right not, cause even almost 3 years later there is always that urge. I found dried Ginger Slices at the store the other day. They are super yummy.

Hi, @littleonefmohio -- That is too bad the not smoking has failed you again. I understand it is incredibly hard.

You are strong, and you can do this.

What are your biggest hopes for yourself or family with your giving up smoking?

@travelgirl I noted your advice of using Ginger Candy. I am not a smoker, but at one point I wanted to enhance my intake of ginger and tried the candies. I could not handle the taste! I am glad they worked for you and hope they work for everyone else also. I guess something strong is needed to break the strong addiction of nicotine!
