Barrett’s esophagus
Looking for info and help with Barret’s esophagus. I can’t figure out just how serious this is. I have read way too much online! I don’t really know how strict my diet really has to be. It is really stressful-. Does anyone here have it? And exactly how serious is it?

That’s wonderful @marsha357 — did you have just one RFA? I’m scheduled for 7 to 9 total and I’ve had 4 so far.
I was also told by my doc that I would stay on prevacid forever so the Barrett’s won’t come back. The RFA gets rid of the Barrett’s segments but it doesn’t stop reflux.
@dandl48 thank you for that post! I’ve been worried about having a second Nissen and your comments have helped me gather my thoughts.
My first Nissen was before I developed low grade dysplasia with my Barrett’s. Then when dysplasia appeared, they started at the bottom with these RFAs. And now surgeon says my nissen is completely undone and I should have it done again so reflux won’t be so bad. But I’m worried that might cover up the Barrett’s like your docs said.
I’m going to do a message thru 3 portals to my gastroenterologist, my surgeon who does the RFAs, and my surgeon who does the Nissen to let them know about my concerns. Hoping the 3 of them will get together and figure out the best plan of action!
Thank you again!
@riflemanz64 I had carrot juice at a health bar in Memphis about 100 years ago with an aunt who had earlier fed me “healthy pancakes & syrup” she had made out of who knows what! I don’t know if I was still queasy from the pancakes — but the carrot juice gagged me! I’ve never tried it since!
Thanks, @dandl48 That’s good to know.for when I see my gastro after the endoscopy it’s a little bit of extra knowledge.
My original gastroenterologist moved from MGH to Columbia in NYC to my dismay, he was great and considered an expert on Barretts. The doctor I will be seeing now is new to me. I hate it when a doctor who I really like moves away. 🙁

Pdilly, I would of bought the carrot juice if it didn’t have lemon juice in it. I always liked V8 but that’s a no go.
@riflemanz64 I love V8 juice! I miss it so much!
I just bought the acid watchers diet book that was recommended by a person on the Mayo site. I hope it's great knowledge on this disease.
When at Mayo Rochester, do you ever eat lunch at the "Tonic"....right across the street from St.Mary's ..they do many exotic fruit and vegetable juices and soups..Try it
I was just diagnosed in Nov with BE and I having trouble figuring out which fruits are acceptable since they are supposed to help prevent EC. Do you know if apples, pears and peaches are ok? I know bananas are ok. This somewhat new diagnosis has been quite frightening and I seem to get a lot of conflicting info. I feel like I am eating too many whole grains and not enough fruit or vegis.
@maxsproudmom I’m sorry you have Barrett’s. Question: what is EC?
