Moving from India to Canada for health reasons

Hi,

I am writing from Bangalore, India. I am seeking information & advise with regards my son’s health and hence writing to you.

My 14 year old son was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis when he as 10 years old in India. He was born in Toronto and we moved to India when he was 4 years old. He has been getting regular infections and prescribed antibiotics when needed; he is on inhalers regularly; the Pulmonologist here suggested that this is happening because of dust & pollution here.

We are exploring options to move back to Toronto next year and doctor also has advised to try.

I am concerned about cold & snow in Toronto and if that worsens his condition. Please advise if we can attempt to move to Toronto in April 2019.

Your advise will be highly valued & appreciated.

Hi @rampa, I live in Wisconsin, U.S.A and was diagnosed with bronchiectasis over 3 years ago. Where I live, the winter is cold and there can be a lot of snow. I'm not a doctor. But I don't believe the temperature and snow will make bronchiectasis worsen. However, dirty air will. Although I only received formal diagnosis a short while ago, I had been suffering from the symptoms for a very long time. It is very possible the condition started when I was living in China over 30 years ago. I don't know what the air quality is in Bangalore. But I assume it is worse than that in Canada. If you are looking for clean air, Canada would be one of the places you would want to live.
