Low back pain & neuropathy issues

Posted by timmckinney @timmckinney, Feb 6, 2018

68 years old and lower back+neuropathy issues make staying active hell. Used to be avid jogger and now cannot be on my feet for more than 10-15 minutes. No meds help. Very depressing.

Yes Hosta, you have it right. Stay in your own home or apt and stay away from infusion living places. I met lots of women who have wished they did not sell their home. I sold mine as it was 2.5 hours away from medical. Moved into sons guest house. Had to start looking for apt ad my kids were smothering me. I am allowed to have my dogs. However I must for own health give away one. I have two registered Yorkies. Two yrs old. They love me deeply

Is there such a thing as a perfect pastor. Being a third generation pastor, now retired, I can tell unequivocally that no pastor is perfect any more than any member of the congregation is perfect. "There is none righteous, no not one." For me, holiness, not perfection, is the goal.

Thanks Jim. You are so right. There is only one perfect person and that was Jesus! Thank your for your service. We should not go to church for the pastor. We go to grow in our faith. What we get from the pastor's message is a up to each person! What is more important is "God" is there. When we sit there in pain, it makes it hard to pay attention. Again, thank you Jim for the years in the church.

@hosta

Thank you for your kind words. When I left my last church, I was in the throes of a deadly depression, and had to retire. The church people didn't understand. Not one person said thank you, or any word of appreciation. I was pretty devastated, which just added to the depression. That was 12 years ago. For most of that time I've been seeing a therapist, and I'm in a better place now.

There are always others, if you look hard enough. I make daily trips to the gym the grocery store the pharmacy, anywhere I can find familiar faces anyone I can have a good word with. senior centers, go for lunch even if you don't need the food. Go to church even if you're not religious. Volunteer to read to children. They are the greatest of healers Among Us. just don't give up, it's so easy to be alone if that's the choice you make it's just as easy to be with someone.

I understand wanting to be alone. But I truly believe I need to force myself to be a friend to someone and get friendship back. It's easy when we don't feel well and people don't understand our illness to just shut the door and live out our life. It's harder to make an effort.

Have you heard of Kradom'. I think spelling is correct. Not approved by drug admin. But natural thing aren't. Check it out. I have not used it since Dr. out me on so many meds. But I will tell you it works.

The drug companies are wanting it off market just like they fought marijuana. I don't use either but I believe people should have the right.

Jim, Keep up with your good work with the therapist. Yes, depression is so hard to go thru, just like pain, you put a smile on your face to hide it. I like to thank our pastor each Sunday. I know I couldn't do that job! It is far more than a hour on Sunday morning. Just forgive those people for their lack of appreciation, even tho they hurt you! I know that is easy for me to say. You will be fine with Gods help.

@hosta

Thanks. I have forgiven them. I knew I had to do that. I'm just sad that the few women who spread lies about me were able to poison the whole church. It was a very small town with three churches. People from the other churches said the farewells. We enjoyed giving ten years of our lives to the community.

I had polyneuropathy for over 10 years and I have been on every medication I have seen listed on these forums and a few of them, like gabapentin, lyrica and cymbalta seemed to make it worse when I had to stop taking them when I lost my insurance due to unemployment for a while. During that time I was so desperate I tried so many natural things and 2 things have helped more than any narcotic or antidepressants or anticonvulsants - Kratom. It is legal in most states but not all because it is highly controversial but it literally saved my life. Also a suppliment called Alpha Lipoic Acid contains 600mg. I pray you find relief because it’s seriously the worst pain I ever imagined a human would gave to endure and which the medical field seems to be completely heartless about (unless you happen to find an actual doctor who has lived through it.) The only other thing that ever helped me was Valium or Xanax and the doctors would rather someone take their own life than allow that so I had no choice but to desperately search for something and thank God I found Kratom. It comes in capsule or powder form and if you take it regularly for chronic pain so you are not chasing the pain it really helps but it is definitely addicting physically so you can’t just stop taking it cold Turkey (like any of these other hardcore meds they are passing out. It also helps mood and energy depending on the different strains. The red ones are the ones that keep my neuropathy calm the best but they all work.

Kratom is not regulated so aside from other concerns, I am leery of it. But I am glad it helps you. It is so hard to get help for pain.

I know one person who had serious withdrawal from it and took his own life, so be careful!
