Anxiety: bouts of nervousness, dry flushing and nausea
I have been experiencing intense bouts of nervousness, dry flushing and nausea for months. These “spells” come on quickly and pass quickly. They happen a few times a week, which doesn’t sound like a big deal. But this feeling is so frightening! I’ve had heart, blood and urine testing. Everything comes back “normal”. I am a fit 70-year-old woman, so I can’t blame this on hormones! I’ll be at Mayo for my annual physical next month thank goodness. If my symptoms have a name, they’ll know it!! In the meantime, I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has similar issues!

Hi, Lorraine. Have you talked with your doctor about adding a secondary medication? I did this recently, and it has really helped. I've been taking Wellbutrin for 12 years, and the psychiatrist added Remeron because depression seemed to be worsening. Let us know how you're feeling.
Jim
Hello @jimhd I didn't think of a secondary medication. Sounds good and I will certainly ask her about it. I'll mention Remeron, also. Thanks so much Jim.
My appointments at Mayo are the week of Feb. 17. I’ll let you know what they say!
thanks @lisalucier for caring. I called the dr who prescribed the Wellbutrin this morning. He told me to quit taking it and to go see my GP to be checked out which I will tomorrow. He also said I shouldn't have any withdrawals but I'm wondering if I will. If anyone has gone off it cold turkey I'd love to know how you did. I really love being able to be real and know that there are others who truly understand.
The IQ part is a ruse; I just throw in a few big words every so often. What you just described is way more to celebrate about yourself than what you mentioned previously. I have watched friends with children who have either needed them 24/7 for many t=years and some for all of their lives. I admire and am amazed at people who can be God's hands and other necessities for these children and still maintain a pretty positive outlook on life. I think you have so very much to give yourself a pat on the back for and always to realize the inner strength you have when faced with any adversity. You certainly have my admiration!
That is very unusual in a psychiatric practice. Even when the person I was seeing was retiring, they would not move me to another in the practice and if it was simply a non-compatibility issue, then switching inside the practice was out of the question. CBT tries to help you learn different ways of thinking about problems or ideas. If you are a negative thinker, like me, it helps you to evaluate situations without judgement until you have evaluated it from different angles. I don't know if that is the dictionary definition, but it is the one that works for me.
How long have you been taking the Buspiron/Wellbutrin? I would expect no ill effects if just a couple of weeks or so, any longer and I wouldn't know. Maybe someone else who has discontinued Wellbutrin could offer us some insight or even what they may have done to minimize any effects of discontinuation?
Thanks! I've been on it 3 weeks. So far today no withdrawals but I'd think it would take a few days for them to start.
I spent the past week at Mayo-Rochester. I consulted with numerous specialists and had a battery of tests, including adrenal, gastro, thyroid ... you name it, I had it. All came back normal. My “spells” are less frequent these days, but so unsettling when I do get them. If things get worse, I’ll go back for a CT scan and neuro studies. I am also advised that sometimes there simply is no diagnosis. I have total confidence in the Mayo Clinic and will follow their advice. Thank you for all the support, suggestions and encouragement. I am truly grateful.
