Short-term high-dose IV steroids for inflammation of small airways?

Posted by bassman @bassman, Jan 8, 2018

Anyone have experience with short term high dose steroid treatment intravenously to address inflammation of the small airways. My 16 yr old just completed her first 3 day treatment.

I'm tagging a few members who I believe have taken steroids to help with inflammation of the small airways in the lungs, although I don't know if they had high-dose intravevous treatment: @windwalker @pfists @tdrell @russt

Bassman, what led to the inflammation in her lungs? How is she doing?

@bassman, Hello there. I have taken a 10 day run of a tapered dose of steroids. I do them every other year as needed. I have never had steroids intravenously before. I found them to be miraculously helpful. I don't think that being on them for a short term is as worrisome as being on them for a long period of time. They can make one feel antsy some times. The last time I took them; I did not have that sensation. They increased my appetite and made me feel strong and got me over the torn down shape I was in. Let us know how your daughter does with them.

@colleenyoung....I had taken inhaled steroids ....Flovent....for many years for “asthma”. In January 20-7, while being evaluated at NJH, I was given a test...called the methocholine challenge test” that showed I did not have asthma. So I have not used Flovent for a year. I have continued to take nasal steroids sniffs in morning and evening for “allergic rhinorrhea.tdrell

She was hit by a car on 5/11th Aspirated. Was on life support for 2 weeks. Has both lungs collapse and developed ARDS while on vent. The dr said they have never seen this happen because of a one time trauma or aspiration but I am assuming the inflammation is do to all the things mentioned above.
