Kidney transplant - The Journey from the Donor's Side
I'm headed to Rochester on the 10th for surgery on the 12th. I'm excited and nervous! I didn't know the recipient but have gotten to "meet" her and some of her daughters through phone calls and emails.
I've had labs done at my doctor's office and went to Mayo a few weeks ago for a million more tests. My case was presented to the donor board a few days before Christmas and I was approved and notified the same day. It seems like everything took so long and now is going so fast.
I'm interested in hearing from donors but haven't had a lot of luck. It seems like the recipients are the ones who post the most, which gives me some info and reassurance but it would be nice to hear from the other side too.

@hopefulgirl I completely understand what you mean!
I'm not too social and don't really like attention but want to post online, put up signs and tell everyone I walk past that they may be walking around with the perfect kidney for someone! I haven't quite figured out how to do it with the focus on the message rather than myself.
I think posting it is important to get the word out. Maybe talk about the process, how to sign up, what's involved?
@hopefulgirl Thank you, from the wife of a kidney transplant patient, for your generosity. If you Haven't been in contact, consider communicating with UNOS [United Network for Organ Sharing]. I don't know where you are located but they may be able to have you as a volunteer, to be an ambassador of sorts for living donor programs. It is thanks to you that a greater percentage of those needing organs can have a better chance for a second chance!

@jodeej @contentandwell I've been praying about a donor for a while. Last Wednesday, I posted on Facebook that I was looking for a donor. I received a message this morning from someone who is willing to donate a kidney. Thanking God for answered prayers.
@marvinjsturing That is fantastic! So happy for you. Hope they are the perfect match:-)
@marvinjsturing I hope the donor will be a good match for you. Keep us informed please. You must be beyond ecstatic.

@contentandwell I don't think it's sunk in yet. It doesn't seem real at this time. I have been communicating with her through Messenger because she was at work. She will be home tomorrow night and I will be able to call her. Nothing can happen before June 5. That is the 5 year anniversary of my cancer surgery. If everything works out, things will start happening in the summer. It is very exciting!
@marvinjsturing that is so exciting! I hope that he/she is able to donate to you. What a blessing!
JoDee
@marvinjsturing Wow, that is great news! I hope that she can start the testing process now, so everything is ready to go come summer. Happy dancing here, for you!

@rosemarya That is an awesome story! There should be "Do Something" chapters all across the country!
