Months of Chest Pain - Please help

Posted by capt209 @capt209, Nov 19, 2017

Hello all,

My name is Brandon and I'm a 34 year old male. I'm excited to get signed up on here and hopeful this may help my anxiety which is through the roof! I have been through ongoing chest pain for the past 4 months. The pain started off as a pinch on the left side of chest. It evolved into a pinch and pressure onto the right side of chest. It would be nearly daily, but didn't really get worse after meals or doing a lot of exercising. The pain then started radiating to my shoulders and sometimes into my arms but rarely. Now, it radiates into my jaw occasionally. I get a wierd fluttering in my chest occasionally when I lay down, but when i sit up and get doing stuff I don't realize it much. Now the chest pain mainly feels like pressure in my chest snd i get occsssional sharp pains on the lower portion of my ribs and sometimes on each side of my sternum. What could this be?

Here's what all I've had done....
CT scan of heart and heart echo - found i have a slightly dialated aerota at the base that they will monitor yearly. I also have a bicuspid aerota valve with moderate regurgitation. Cardiologist does not think my heart is causing the pains. I have no blockages at all and they aren't concerned at all of a heart attack.

I was scoped and found i have a moderate to large hiatal hernia and esophagitas. They also did a manometry test and found I was having esophogas spasms. I am set to have a bravo test this week to see if acid reflux might be the cause. I bet that will show that is the case because I've had acid reflux since my late teens / early 20s.

During my CT scan, they saw a slightly enlarged lymphnode...which i think was on the right side of my chest. They said they would recheck that in 6 months. I had a cold or infection during that test and had some congestion and they say that may of been the reason for that.

I have been on a proton pump inhibitor, zantac and tums as needed but i haven't really noticed much of an improvement on them, if at all.

I have back problems and a neck injury as well. They also think that may be the cause of the chest pain. I had an MRI which did not show any nerve compression but I am constantly battling neck and back pain, sometimes severe.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks all,
Brandon

I'm.25 and have been having chest heavyness and pressure (not so much pain) in my chest mainly in the middle, sometimes left or right side or all at once, for about 4 months. It's constant when I'm up , and used to go away when I lay down. I used to get a bloated feeling from eating very little or even nothing at all. I feel shaky inside sometimes. But the main problem is the chest pressure and discomfort. I have had multiple hearts tests x-rays etc and doctors can't find anything wrong. They suspected gerd but its not. They then blamed.it on drinking alcohol.amd smoking but I've given up both about 2 months ago. So I've been told to go on a diet and try that. Just wondering has anyone else had this "undiagnosed problem" and tried eating clean and it's gone away ? No problem relating to heart or breathing. Help please

The bloating went away weirdly after about 2 months , so not sure if it's connected but thought someone else might have had the same with the pressure. The hole thing started off as a little pinch feeling on the left of my chest then gradually spread across my chest , it started a couple days before lockdown so could it be from anxiety which I've never had ? But I also had a infection for 1 day that cause me to vomit and have diarrhea for the hole day. Not sure f that' could be related either. Someone out there must know what it is and how to fix it

So I've had stress test which was perfect and CT of aorta, all good. Still have chest pains. I went to physio who thinks this might be coming from upper back as I sometimes have pain around my t8 and gave me tips to exercise. He said if it was from the upper back I'd see results in two weeks. I'm part week one with no change yet. Fingers crossed.

@capt209 wow I have verbatim exactly what you have going on. Same history. Same form and location of chest discomfort. History of taking PPIs. I went for the bravo and endoscopy first because my family doc recommended it based on my GERD history. Everything was fine. No issues. Now I’m headed to cardiology in 10 days. Did you find a resolution? It’s driving me nuts but mostly the anxiety of thinking Im about to have a heart attack at the age of 39. Hopefully you found something. Thanks! Jeff

Omg! I'm 25 and had exact same symptoms.
I got my ECG, ECHO, CHEST X RAY AND CT SCAN done but everything was normal.
But my chest discomfort doesn't seem to disappear.

Were you able to find a reason ?

I have a lot of the same issues. I am 35 y/o male. For months now I have dealt with random chest pain/discomfort. These can sometimes last the majority of the day. Occasionally, this discomfort will be accompanied by a sensation in my left arm. It almost feels like the muscle is going numb. Also, the chest discomfort can radiate into my back. I've found that my resting HR can frequent dip into the low 40s. More nights than not I will wake up with these chest issues. This sets off the anxiety and it's all downhill from there. GP sent me to cardiologist. Holter monitor and echo stress test. Can't seem to diagnose anything. Does anyone have any insight into what could be going on if it's non-cardio as they are suggesting? I am sick of reading the same old "your chest pain could be serious, go see a doctor". The anxiety makes sleep almost impossible since I'm convinced I'll have a heart attack in my sleep. One weird part of this is the fact that when my HR is elevated in excersise, I feel the best. The chest pain is gone, and stays fine for a while. Worst time is when I'm completely at rest. I hope someone has some insight.

Hi! Not sure if you still log onto here but I read this and was excited to find someone who is going through the same thing as me! im 31 years old. Im a female. For about 6 months or more I have been having these weird pains in my left side of chest. Its not crushing or a squeezing sensation. Its more like a cramping sort of? and it changes in location. Sometimes its between my left armpit and nipple...sometimes its below my left breast. It also as you said...it once in awhile sends a weird sensation down my left arm into my finger tips. These events happen daily but just as yours do...seem to happen very randomly. Also, just like yours, it seems to happen when im at rest the most. When im working, moving around, ect. it doesnt seem to do this. I havent been to a doctor about it because to be honest im afraid. But i work in medical field and have discussed it with some of my coworkers and they all seem to think it isnt cardiac related due to my age and otherwise good health. I know that nowadays anyone at anytime can develop heart problems but they also told me that usually pains that come and go and last for months and months as mine have are more indicating a musculoskeletal issue rather than a heart condition. Im not sure what the heck is causing this..but if it was an injured muscle in my back or shoulder like they say i feel like it woudlve healed by now. The pains seem to be getting more frequent. And also....the area in which these "pains/cramps" are occuring is deep inside...like i cant get to it to try and massage it for relief. Nothing I do seems to trigger it...heavy lifting or exercise doesnt bring it on or relieve it when it happens. I know I should prob see a doctor but im worried they are gonna say its something serious or worse tell me there is nothing wrong and I just have to keep dealing with this and have it get worse. Just so weird that when Im at rest is when it seems to happen the most.

Hi Hun. I've been having these for 7 months now. Have had all sorts of examinations and nobody ever found out what it is. The last thing is either having a gastroscopy or try a course of antidepressants I was told by my gp.. He's running out of ideas as well. I also developed panic attacks lately usually at night. I'm from medical field as well which makes it harder to be honest constantly trialling what condition this could be as I want answers badly and I'm afraid it's something serious. Have also tried physio with no help and I'm thinking about trying acupuncture. All the best to you
