Looking for understanding of "itching" all over body that moves around, Am stage 4/severe have had CKD for @ least 14 yrs. I believe cause is increase of Toxins in blood due to Kidney failure--can't find if there is a Lab-test for toxidity /blood? If not, why???? Found out that itching is quite common, even in those already on Dialysis, either kind, any info on this appreciayed

When I was stage 4 in 2023, I had the jumping around itching quite severe. It was anytime of day, but mostly bad at night. I have less of it now, I am now stage 3b. It seems connected to the amount of phosphorus or potassium in the blood. Mostly the phosphorus, I believe. A lot of foods have added phosphates, check ingredients. From my reading, added phosphates are not processed very well by kidneys. Naturally occurring phosphates do process more easily. So, the reason I say this is, if I eat foods that are higher in natural phosphates or eat food that might have contained the -ates (ingredients), the itching returns for a couple of days. Once the kidneys flush those out again, it settles down. Another idea, I've reduced my protein intake. My daily intake ranges from 40 to 60 grams, mostly to the low side. And, a good percentage of that is from seeds, beans, etc., instead of meat. Seems like high protein intake resulted in more itching.

I did go to a dermatologist, he provided some ointments, creams, etc to help with the itching. It wasn't a cure-all, but did help. I also try not to shower or wash hands with really hot water. Avoid harsh soaps and laundry soap can be another issue. My hands were covered with eczema in 2023-2024. That has improved greatly with diet changes. Dermatologist said, whatever you're doing, keep doing it. I can't prove this helped, but in my daily food intake, I include ground flax seed, chia seeds. And, I try to get olive oil daily too. Some things to consider, hope you find this helpful.
