Taking Anastrazole and mounjaro
Hi. I’m a 60 year old woman living in Australia. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. I had surgery and radiation and have been taking Anastrazole for 2 years now. I have been getting hit flushes and joint ache which has been bearable. But the worst issue has been tiredness and weight gain. My GP has suggested starting Mounjaro to try to help my body and metabolism to kick start again so I can lose weight. I feel that I need something to help me get through another 5 years on Anastrazole so I don’t end up stacking weight on. I’m interested in the experiences of other women in similar situations. I’ve read a lot and am aware that the weight loss is slower because the aromatose inhibitors are working against the Mounjaro somewhat. But I feel it would give me a boost and take away some of the angst I have about the next 5 years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @noravillegirl I am so glad you posted this. GLP-1 drugs have so much promise, why not us? I can’t afford them unless something changes with insurance or the price in the U.S. but I would love to hear some success stories about this. The biggest percentage of breast cancers are estrogen positive and many of us take endocrine therapy. The resulting weight gain just feels like adding an insult to our injury.
Have you started mounjaro yet? Will you let me know how you are doing with it?

1 ReactionHi. Thanks for reaching out. I agree that it is frustrating that there’s not more support. The government here gives a small rebate and my health fund adds to that as well. We worked out that it’s the equivalent of a few take away meals per week for us. And so if I’m eating healthier then we can forgo the take out! I’m seeing it as an investment in my mental and physical health. And to do whatever I can to watch my beautiful 4 grandchildren grow up!
I will let you know how it goes. I see my GP in 3 weeks as he is away at the moment. We discussed it in my last appointment and I said that I would like to start in December so I have our summer holidays to adjust to it and get into a rhythm before school starts back in late January. I’m a teacher so it’s a good time to let my system get used to it.
I will certainly let you know how I go. I’m expecting some nausea and either gastro or constipation but am planning things now to try and limit that. I’ve also ordered magnesium bisglycinate gummies as apparently they help your body as the GLP-1 starts to take effect.
All the best.
