Is sweating during sleep a side effect of radiation therapy
I had SCC and surgery and radiation in 2024. Experiencing trouble swaliowing from radiation as well as the thick mucus etc' Latest thing is awaking in morning and having been sweating during early morning hours. Is this another late term effect of the radiation.

Yes, it does suck to have to go through it. No one ever wants to join our club. There is a whole plethora of symptoms you may or may not experience. Some come on years later and are not always connected with the HNC treatment. At least not 20 years ago. Your age may affect how readily you heal from such treatment. It's a good idea to have a doctor in your corner who understands your situation. Good luck!

1 ReactionI had a radical neck dissection and then radiation. Afterwards, I was prescribed a medication to assist with producing saliva. That medication made me sweat and it did produce saliva but I had to reduce the dosage to manage the sweating. Just information if you have been taking medication for saliva.

2 Reactions@eachdayblessed Hello, My name is Michael, I had a bi-lateral radical neck dissection 4 weeks ago. The burning around my neck, chest and shoulders is terrible. They say it’s all nerve related and could go on for a long while. Swallowing is awful and unfortunately my left vocal cord became paralyzed during surgery so I can only whisper. Did you happen to experience any of these things? Many thanks

Only slight sunburn feeling more so on sensitive areas like neck, upper back and upper chest. I guess that was because I shaved regularly before the radiation resulting in that area not being sensitive. I didn’t ask for any remedy/lotion questions to my doctors at the time. I wouldn’t take it upon myself to guess what kind of lotion would help because you need to avoid chemicals/ingredients to avoid irritation. Regarding food I remember no citrus, strawberries, spice. It was recommended to do bland non-chewing foods that go down easily. Lots of ice cream type smoothies. Ask your food questions to a nutritionist that is connected to your care team. They will give you advice that is complete. You need high calorie foods. Best to you! 🙏
@eachdayblessed My burning sensation was from radiation not the surgery. The surgery caused numbness on my facial right side, right neck area and right shoulder. My surgery was a right side neck dissection.
@eachdayblessed Thank you
@eachdayblessed Understand clearly now. I had a baseball sized tumor removed from my throat last January, was told cancer would not return for approximately 5 years. Needless to say it returned to lymph nodes six months later so that’s why I had the bi lateral, both sides of neck surgery. They said because they were in the area prior is reason why the burning feeling is everywhere so to speak. Radiation is next up if anything so ups in scan.
@michael1129 I had an old-time military MD diagnosis me and I verified the diagnosis via a second opinion. This was 30 years ago. The doc was straight forward, he did not give me options. That I appreciated. I felt confident in him because of his vast experience. Today I believe it was divine intervention because doctors don’t talk that way to patients. He said if you don’t follow my instructions I won’t be your doctor. He told me I needed surgery and radiation. He said you only want to do this once, do everything you can do once to give you the best possible outcome. You don’t want this to come back because the cancer will.
