Joint replacement in big toe.
I’m a 72 year old female that needs a joint replacement in my big toe. I was told by the surgeon that I will need the joint replaced approximately every 5 years for the rest of my life! Has anyone else had this type of joint replacement surgery? How have you faired with it? Does the surgery actually relieve the pain and awkward mobility problems?

I have SEVERE bilat. bunions. But... no pain. Just ugly feet. I normally would wear a size 11, as I am 5 ft 11. Unfortunately with my great toes actually twisting to the sides bilat., and then of course it pushing all the other toes over that area that my toes touch in a shoe is where the shoe starts to slant downward. So, I have had to go upwards of one or two sizes so that my toes are not jammed into the shoe. All the while I'm leaving a huge space a big toe should be! Anyway, I am following this because I'm wondering if someone is doing this for bunions issues or if they had a bunionectomy? I believe the time for my possible bunionectomy has passed, as I cannot use one of those knee devices to keep off weight bearing. I will be having my first hip replaced in January then my left in March and then my knees. I understand with total knee replacement kneeling going forward is problematic and only for a short periods. Not for an 8 to 10 week of non weight bearing.
@tkrfail21 my sister had the bunion/fusion done and her only complaint is that she can’t wear high heels! She experiences no pain whatsoever.

That is great news. I haven't been able to wear heels for so long it won't matter

I bought an electric mobility scooter to use in the house only because my bunion is on the same leg as my knee replacement. So I can't use that knee scooter. My big toe has severe arthritis so only remedy is a big toe fusion. Can't put any weight on foot for at least 4 weeks-hence the scooter. Good luck with all you replacements.
