Recurrent metastatic endometrial cancer: Letrozole indefinitely?

Posted by charlieboy @charlieboy, Sep 27 10:21pm

I'm in 9 year remission from recurrent metastatic endometrial cancer. I have been on letrozole for 9 years without serious side effects. I'm on bone meds for osteoporosis. I thought I would be on letrozole for 10 years. My oncologist retired and the new one informed since I was stage 4 at recurrence it would be better if I continued letrozole indefinatly. Has anyone else experienced this?

Good Morning,
Hope you are doing great. I can't believe we are almost into the holiday season already. Time just goes by too quickly!

Just wanted to give a quick update. My CT scans came back showing a small increase in the size of the tumors they are monitoring, so my new Oncologist is putting me back on the Letrozole, but says to start with one pill every other day and then another scan and blood work at the end of 3 months. She told me they have had more success with Letrozole than with the chemo pill for this type of cancer, so hopefully it will slow the progression without too many side effects.

Take care and prayers going for everyone on this thread who is fighting this fight with courage & hope!

@charlieboy Thank so much for the well wishes! So far so good with the Letrozole, so keep your fingers crossed! I had not realized that it is used to keep so many different cancers at bay. My Oncologist said the studies show it has better results than doing the chemo, so that is
definitely encouraging!

@basketballpal
That is great to hear how effective letrozole is. I know 9 years ago my dr wanted me on letrozole, afinitor and metformin but I couldn't tolerate the last two. My gynecologist oncologist said the letrozole was the most important. So it by itself has kept me in remission for 9.5 years and hoping same for you
