Prednisone tapering is challenging. What does remission feel like?
Hi all what’s remission feel like? Does it only happen when I’m completely off prednisone or can remission occur while I’m tapering?
I’ve had PMR for a year and three months and I’ve been on prednisone for a year. I have been able to taper down to 4mg per day with some manageable pain and moodiness, but 2 days ago my head cleared and I felt like my happy self again. I’m still a little achy but really thrilled that I’m not cranky/spacey/frustrated.
Can I accelerate the taper? Any advice?

Welcome @dacota, I don't think you are alone being on prednisone for many years. You might find the video in the discussion started by @dadcue interesting if not helpful:

Have you tried any alternative treatments instead of or with prednisone?
@johnbishop Hi I’m on tramadol for pain and paracetamol
I do wish my doctor would give me 1mg of steroid so I can try to cut down slowly I’ve asked but she said I had been on predisolone such along time at 5mgs she didn’t think it was a good idea.I think they are causing me to have more pain,I know I am right because I have had 2.5mgs off my partner every other day and felt much better,I know you should not try anybody else tablets but I must try and see if it’s the predisolone causing more pain or not and I know it is.
@dave1234 Hi yes I had a Covid jab last week and it made the pain I’ve got 10 times worse it was terrible I don’t know wether to have another one. I’m on predisolone 5mgs at the moment for arthritis.
