Lorazapam withdrawal
My husband just checked into an in-patient treatment facility for weaning off of lorazapam which he has been on for 2 years and was exhibiting many horrible side effects while making his mind numb and worsening his memory among other side effects. He wasn’t abusing lorazapam but all he could think about was taking it and his memory was getting worse, his mind became numb, slurred speech, shuffling his feet and his psychiatrist would continue to prescribe it while continuing to prescribe different anxiety meds in addition to lorazapam. Dr kept changing the anxiety meds, kept him on lorazapam even though my husband kept telling him he wasn’t getting better. He has never been on anxiety meds and had a sort of PTSD episode (regret of buying a commercial building), and his sister and mother who use anxiety meds talked him into seeing a psychiatrist and getting on meds. He has never been good with taking meds so I am asking for an amazing cognitive bahavior therapist/psychologist in the Twin Cities area to help with talk therapy. He does not want to take mind altering drugs anymore. I also thinks he struggles a lot with co dependency with his sibling and parents and is directing his co dependency issues on me and his children. Please help!!!

This is truly so tragic, he’s getting overwhelmed by too many people that are so very wrong for his wellbeing, it’s all up to you to get him out of this nightmare. I’m very sorry for the weight of your burden but I know that you want to help him, he also seems to want to get help but he can’t do it himself. I believe that you must take total control over his health, cut him off from contact with his family because they’re detrimental for his health, I feel that he’s being influenced by them, it’s also obvious that drug treatment centre is not good for him, to make matters worse he’s an inpatient so they have complete control over his body and mind. He wants to get rid of the drugs but they keep plying him with more drugs, this will eventually destroy any chance of him ever recovering and getting his life back. It’s pertinent that you get help finding the right doctor and therapy for him, people get off drug addiction all the time, reach out to organizations that deal with Benzodiazepines, i.e. Benzo Buddies, ask them for advice on where to go for his treatment, there’s hope for him and you when you get sent in the right direction, I know that you want the best for him and you deserve to get it but it’s a tough journey, I sincerely hope that you will find the strength to do this because it can only get better from here, God bless you and your husband.
That sounds like a horrible situation. Some people have bad influence on others. I wish you the best.
