Aquablation: Post-surgery expectations
After decades of pills to (partially) manage BPH, I am scheduled for aquablation at Mayo JAX in mid-Feb. Has anyone had that procedure done? What was post-surgery like? What were your experiences regarding regular vs. retrograde ejaculation?
My expectations are high. My general health is good+ (71 yo), my prostate is enlarged but not massive, my PSA's suggest no cancer concerns. The surgeon expects a low-risk procedure (no incisions I believe) and a quick recovery (unless something unexpected pops up). I appreciate it's impossible to predict surgical outcomes with certainty - I would like to hear of others' experiences to help set my expectations.

3 Reactions@psblin99 where did you have your aquablation performed?
Palm Coast Florida Dr Bruno Machado.
@psblin99 thank you. sounds like you would recomend him.
@albiet I liked him before the procedure. I liked him after. Absolutely
Thanks. My Acquablation did not go as well as I would have liked. While he has performed some interaction since, it still not as expected. Am debating going to another uro that has good Acquablation results to see what they think is the issue
@albiet Good idea. The sooner you can sort this out the quicker your expected full recovery will be.
Exactly 3 weeks post-op with Dr. Jeffrey Evans at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. Minimal blood in urine at this point but still some discomfort when urinating. What's most disappointing, however, are the results, at least at this stage. Frequency of urination still there. Inadequate, inconsistent flow and never had I experienced the "peeing like a racehorse" feeling like friends who had TURP. BTW, my doctor said that Aquablation IS basically TURP for what that's worth, so I felt I was getting the gold standard of treatment. My prostate was at 85 cc if I'm correct, so well within the guidelines for this procedure. Also, to add to the journey, I had UroLift just 18 months ago at another facility and Uro. Again, was told to be patient and allow it to heal. Well, supposedly my prostate grew around the staples and the results were never successful. What a waste. But now I'm in the same spot. Trying to be patient, although it amazes me that this should take so long to heal up and resolve. And of course, I'm most concerned that this may not work and that I'm facing further work which is more than disheartening. Interestingly, I've known maybe 6-7 friends and relatives who have had a procedure (mostly TURP) in the last fews years. ALL of them had a successful experience and have said, "Oh, you'll be so glad you had it". Surely I can't be the only one out of that group who isn't better off than before. I am in better shape than many of them and have had a strong track record of a full and positive recovery from other procedures. So, heading into week 4 and hoping for the best.
