On Oxygen 24/7 - How Do You Manage?

Posted by dennyleo @dennyleo, Sep 16 10:22pm

New to the group, 86 years old. Had a blood clot on a lung last December and on oxygen 24/7 since. Use an oxygen concentrator with a 50 ft hose and either step on it or have it wrapped around my feet way too much of the time.

How do YOU manage?

@jlk12 I always pull my cannula up inside my shirt from the waist. So it isn’t hanging out in front of me . It moves to the side as it needs to. I have a crazy young black cat . She was my constant enemy. She loved to chew on the line. She liked the air coming from the holes as she chomped them . I tried that “sour apple” stuff you put on the line . What a mess . I got more than she did . Ugh. So now my line is in a protective casing . I am not sure where my hubby found it. It is a hard plastic tube with a split so one can get the line in. It is easy to see on the floor. I have a 50’ line . Best not to step on it . It doesn’t hurt it , or the line But rolls a bit under your foot . I have it everywhere she can get to the line and about 3 ft up my 7 ft cannula. I wish the best day to all of you , Crystalena

@crystalena I read your post and am wondering if hose tangling or hanging up on things is better or worse? Don’t have a pet problem but I’m looking for other solutions.

@crystalena Thanks. I just purchased some purple tubing on Amazon and it seems to be better about those issues. I might still try that cover. If anyone is interested, I believe you have something similar to that of auto wiring harness.

I saw a Pulmonologist last week and am really looking forward to working with him. Loved my general practitioners but they're just not specifically trained to deal with our needs. I was told when using Inogen or other portable concentrators that supply oxygen only when we inhale the rate should be set at twice the rate we are at using a constant flow source. That makes sense to me.
