KEVZARA approved 9/29, side effects or positive info?

Kevzara
Today (9/29/26) I got the news my Insurance approved the prior authorization for Kevzara for me. I asked the Dr's office to let me know the schedule, how the RX is written. I have no idea how often etc she wants me to take it. I'm really concerned about side effects, especially after hearing people mention their skin felt like it was burning. Some said not sure if it was Kevzara or not. My skin is super thin and sensitive. I can't use any pain patch or anything that irritates it. Concerned re injection site issues for this reason.
I did have IL6 blood test and it was high 21.4 on 8/14/26 and had just started Prednisone 7/31/26 @ 15mg, had to go up to 20mg and was on 20mg 8/14.
Still had to go up to 25mg on 8/15 because pain still present. So, if my IL6 high result means anything to anyone re "should I try Kevzara", please let me know.
I've since tapered down to 17.5mg Prednisone currently (started Sat. 9/26 -17.5mg for 14 days). Will continue to taper 2.5mg every 14 days until next Rheumatologist appt in early November.
Any input appreciated It's so hard to decide because I have many concerns about RXs in general and especially biologic type that "target" a specific protein or anything.
I posted a previous Discussion titled "Wait for flare before starting Kevzara?
Thank you to everyone who answered there. My Prednisone dose has changed and I've read more re Kevzara side effects so appreciate any further input.
The cost this year is another issue.
Thanks very much.
Blessings.

I inject kevzara alternating on each side of my belly button 2 inches from my belly button. I pinch my skin at the area using both hands, so i have a small roll and that ensures the kevzara is injected into my body fat and not my muscle. My wife injects the kevzara and holds the needle in after the click for a couple of extra seconds. That way the kevzara does not come out when the needle is removed. I can feel a small bump from the kevzara under my skin usually to the outside of the shot site. The bump disappears within an hour. I uses an alcohol wipe before and after the shot to cleanse the area. After 3 years, I have had no issues at the injection site area. I keep a record of the date, the side injected into, the amount and number of days between injections. I also record other pertinent information like illnesses, operations, medication changes, etc with date in my record.

Thank you for sharing all this with me. It helps to know how people actually use it and what their response has been. The record keeping is a good idea. I really appreciate all the tips about how you prepare, do it and what you do afterwards as well as what you might experience afterwards. Really appreciate it. Helps to feel less like I'm doing this "injection" without any real information on how to or what to expect. Everyone's input is so helpful. Thank you again. Blessings.

@boomermeg instructions are to alternate sites. I keep track of which leg I inject on my calendar so I know to inject the opposite one the next time. It’s pretty easy.

Thank you so much. I think calendar is a great idea to keep track of which side etc. I'll probably keep other pertinent info like what time etc as it's totally new to me.
I appreciate your help. Blessings.

I can't advise you but I took 1 jab 2 weeks ago and a few hours later I got chills, fever and nausea and vomiting...I was better in an hour, but I haven't taken my 2nd injection which was due Tuesday. My rheumy said to just take allegra the day before and day of injection. She didn't seem overly concerned. People on another group I follow said they have been fine with it mostly. So it's very individual.

I'm sorry to hear about your reactions. Not what you want at all.
Was that your 1st one?

Kevzara comes with very good instructions.
Note belly buttons has 4 ways, sides and top and bottom.
I do it like a clock.
Anyone I’ve read abt legs and arms are not so comfortable.

Thanks again, this is good to know. I'd rather do it where it's more comfortable as well.
Appreciate you letting me know this. Blessings

That's understandable. My Rheumatologist just mentioned Allegra or Zyrtec if get any skin reactions.
I think it's possible to get a reaction like yours at first but it might go away?
I think someone said that in a thread I read but I can't remember where it was.
It's a personal call.
I understand. I hope you feel good about whatever you decide.
Blessings.

I've only taken 6 injections so far but I have the same small bump after the shot that goes away within the hour. I also count to 10 after the click just to be sure.
