Anyone have success with treatment for vaginal Lichen Sclerosus?
I have had vaginal Lichen Sclerosus for many years with several flareups. I am interested in learning of any successful treatments or recommendations.

Yes, I had the condition which rarely bothers me now. The gynecologist I was first seeing for routine care did not diagnose the condition a year after she mentioned my skin was a little pale there. For other reasons, I went to see a gynecologic surgeon who took one look at my labia and said I most likely have liken sclerosis. She said the skin was extremely pale.
I was treated with, as another person here mentioned, clobetasol. I had to use it daily, routinely, for months because the LS was so far advanced. Finally the itching only occurred from time to time. I don't remember exactly how long it took to get rid of the active symptoms of the disease. Many months. Now, only rarely do I get itching --might be spontaneous or from contact with a "allergy free" pad I sometime wear going out, to prevent any minor leaks. Then I use clobetasol briefly and it goes away. Most of the time now I'm fine! Hang in there if it takes a while to quiet it down and get rid of it, or at least keep it in a quiet stage. Patience. I hope the itching goes away soon Beth!!!
@elalios - Just back from my Gynecologic Oncologist 3-month checkup for the LS that became VIN III (Vulvar IntraEpithelial Neoplasia, Grade 3 precancerous) about 2 years ago now, and because of which I have undergone vulvar laser ablation as the first in (so far) a series of 3 approaches to removing the lesions that have developed in these past 2 years.
Without going into more detail this time (I think I've posted some of the details of these procedures in the past 2 years here on the Mayo Clinic Forum), I am back to the maintenance of my condition with Clobetasol propionate 0.01%. It is a steroid, which calms the itchiness and more of this condition. Before this VIN III was discovered/diagnosed I was using the Clobetasol (aka "Temovate") a few times a week.
Due to recent intermittent flare ups my GynOncol today recommended I apply the ointment everyday for 2 weeks, then go back to 3x/week, & to let her know if there are any further flare ups.
Fortunately, unlike some I've read here, the Clobetasol ointment is soothing for me, and there are no side effects that we have seen.
We've scheduled a 4-month follow-up visit next. I hope some of this might help.
@shara16
I was prescribed the same ointment. I've had a good response using it.

1 Reaction@aratner Hi! I wonder if you read about some people's successful experience applying only ozonated coconut oil. I just read about this. Another person found that the related itching decreased by 80% with acidophilus tablets. I've been using clobetasol with pretty good results for a few years. I know it causes thinning of the skin. I'm eager to try these alternatives!!
