Hello Everyone,
My name is Helen. I am almost 72 and I have a lot of chronic pain issues as well as other health issues. I have chronic inflammation throughout my body which causes a lot of pain and other health issues: Osteoarthritis in Back, Knees, Both hands and both feet; Degenerative Disc Disease, Scoliosis and Fibromyalgia. I also have Stage 3 CKD that limits my medications. I have 14 grandchildren that I try to spend as much time with as possible but this year has not been a good year. Hoping to start physical therapy soon and praying that will help.

Hi Kelsey et al, I’ve been in the Mayo connect for a long time. Now unfortunately I have a new affliction. Transgeminal neuralgia. I was having dental surgery and my jaw was hyper extended for a an extended period of time. The first lightening episode was the the night after surgery. Had no idea what it was. I do now. I’m in denial. 20 years of CRPS for multiple reasons and now this. How can I handle 2 syndromes nicknamed the suicide disease?

Thank you very much for the discussion links. I’ve already read a few and responded to one. I was surprised to see so many of them. If my face cooperates, I’ll get to read many more. They’re very helpful.

Hang in there. I would like to thank the people who volunteer to make this site possible. there is so much that cannot be seen with pain. There is much that cannot be diagnosed by doctors. I find that as I am 76 and have many chronic diseases a label cannot be put on everything. I have cardiac problems and am managed with medication. I do not see my cardiologist now. My severe asthma is now managed by my GP. I have muscular and nerve pain and osteo arthritis . This is managed by my GP. I look at the symptom I have and try and remove the symptom.
I am on opiates which alleviate my pain and have to manage my life by pacing and slowing down.
I had the side effect of constipation with the opiates. I knew this was a side effect and was taking movicol. No one but AI told me that opiates block something in the gastro tract and I need to take senna a medication to create movement in the bowel as well as movicol which softens the motion .
I have read that trigeminal neuropathy is one of the worst pains there is.
I assume you have used hot packs and liquid diet. I pray someone will give you adequate pain medication.

Hello Everyone,
I’m Georgia, I go to the Mayo Clinic located in Rochester MN. The picture is of my husband and me. I am a stage 4 breast cancer patient who, unfortunately has radiation induced sciatic nerve damage in my right leg.
The pain is bad and we have tried many things. The needles into my spine did not work and made the pain worse.
Currently, I’m taking Lyrica, and using Lidocaine, heat, cold, Advil and massage.
I learned of a treatment called Scrambler therapy. It sounds very promising. Mayo only does Scrambler therapy for neuropathy and only below the knee.
Has anyone used this to help with severe pain?

@georgiaw Hi Georgia, I'm George.. lol I have not been treated with Scrambler Therapy, but it sounds similar to a Tens unit. How different is it? I would love to go to the Mayo Clinic, but I am currently unable to travel to the nearest one. Nothing has helped with my pain, either at home or through my medical provider.

George, I’m so sorry you have to deal with pain, it is terrible. I believe that the tens units work on muscles (but not sure), scrambler therapy works on nerves. Praying that a resolution for your pain is found.

Hey Everybody, my name is Travis Greene and im dealing with Osteoporosis from the Burn Pits of Somalia and I've been dealing with pain for years ,because my lower half cannot support my upper half and I have to use a walker to do anything and my left lef just goes out at times, because I have a few compressed nerves that constantly shock/electrocute me. Other than that, im good.
