Physical therapy

Are there physical therapists who specialize in helping patients whose back pain is caused by spinal stenosis? Has any of you had experience with such therapists?

My experience is that I have had to interview the physical therapy company about the training and experience of their staff and make sure I am being assigned to the person who they suggest. I wouldn't just let it go if they say yes. I want to know the breadth of their training and experience. If they don't have such a person then I try another physical therapy group. Yes, I have spinal stenosis and other spine issues. Good luck.

I've had PT many times over the past ten years. Most of them hand you a sheet of exercises and proceed to show you how they are done. Then you are pretty much on your own. Until my current PT who actually listens and tailors exercises to help your particular condition. Thank you, Aaron from ATI physical therapy.

I got dismissed (fired) from a PT clinic when I politely declined to do a particular exercise when, after doing it for the first time I was in significant pain for several days. Because I "refused" to comply with their exercise protocol, it was suggested that I not come back. And what a blessing that was! I'm now in a different clinic, recommended by the neurologist I see. There the PTist stays with me every minute I'm there. She talks me thru the exercise, encourages me, finds a slightly different way to do something if it is difficult or painful, brings me cups of cool water. She asks me constantly about the level of difficulty; was it appropriate? too difficult? too easy? She asked me to please tell her if any exercise is too difficult or causes pain because she "has 10 different ways to modify it" so that it is appreopriate for me. I used to not look forward to PT, now it is something I look forward to.
