Loosing hope that my chronic pain will end.

Posted by alijoezack @alijoezack, Sep 10 9:50pm

I’m finding myself completely overwhelmed and hopeless. I’m tired of endless dr appointments and no relief. I hurt my back 15 years ago and was told it was just bruised. Fast forward now my pain is severe. It has always been for the most part in the center but has at some points been lower. Now it’s in my neck and all through my rt shoulder and down my arm. I’m not sleeping well. Tired of being in pain with no answers. I have had multiple MRI and X-rays. I changed my back dr because he was concentrating on my lower back pain and that’s not where my worse pain is. Now my dr thinks it’s my neck and X-rays showed nothing. Waiting till my appointment next week for arm then will most likely be sent for MRI. All while waiting for biopsy in two weeks to see if have breast cancer. Just tired of the pain and feeling like it won’t end.

@kayraymat Yes, you've got be sure to take stool softeners when you take opioids. For me, I take 3 capsules/gelcaps when taking Tramadol and/or Norco and/or Tylenol #3. So very few doctors will prescribe any type pf opioid following any type of fracture or orthopedic operation. I had a triple fracture of my pelvis and the surgeon would only prescribe 2 weeks worth. Gosh, did I suffer after that.

There’s so much you didn’t say. What are the results of your MRIs? Did your MRI cover your cervical spine and your lumbar spine? Have you seen an excellent orthopedic SPINE surgeon?
Are you exercising through your frustrations and depression? Are you Medicare age so you can go to the doctors you want to go to and not wait for referrals? Have you gotten multiple opinions?
I remember once I had a spine surgeon who said my lumbar spine was bruised. It was idiotic when I needed a massive surgery because my vertebrae actually grafted together because the disc fell out, and my nerves exiting my spinewere being crushed in the process.
The wisdom I can offer you from having gone through all this several times is that in today’s climate you are going to need to be your own advocate. You cannot expect that because someone has the title of Dr. ahead of their name that they will provide what you need. You yourself will have to learn about the areas of your body that are compromised, what kinds of things are done to treat them, and where you should be going to get them treated. It kind of becomes a job in and of itself managing your future self. However, the reward will be that you get your life back or you will find peace and security and becoming your new self. Don’t lose “HOPE.“ Hope in part is action. When you lose, hope you lose action and you descend into dark darkness, a dark place. If this is happening, get a therapist or counseling right away so you can return to Hope a place of Hope. Sometimes all you can do is lay down and breathe. Sometimes all you can do is get up and take a little walk in the rain. Sometimes all you can do is empty the dishwasher and reflect. Find safe spaces. Make a list of things you can do when major blocks and frustration hit.(like watching a movie, make a list of the movies, or read something you look forward to).
I believe the universe is made up of duality. So when things are really dark, you have to reach for the light. But it’s there. It’s up to us to find our light.
When things get very bleak and dark, it always helps to remember what the option is and how blessed we still are even in our darkest moment. There’s probably someone who loves you, you probably have sight enough to look at beauty around you, there’s probably something in your refrigerator to snack on, or a journal that you can write in. make sure you know how to do deep, regulatedbreathing. If not look online and watch some videos and bring it into your life. It helps relieve pain and suffering. Establishing good habits to help you at your low points are especially important. Having resources available to help relieve pain and suffering or critical. Thanks for reaching out. I see that many people have offered lovely recommendations. Know that we all go through this and that is why we are here alongside you. Big hug. big smile.

Please do! I was amazed reading the doctors talk about their patients, how scans no matter what they show, don't diagnose pain.
That it comes and goes and moves around sometimes, because it is a defense mechanism from previous emotional/psychological damage regardless of source, from losing a job to a childhood full of abuse, dealt with one and the other folded up shop and went home.
Just saying not many ppl voluntarily walk out of a pain docs office after 17 years.
She told me they never get better always worse.
Btw she agreed 100% with the book.

Just adding, to the right of this picture is the mailbox. I didn't go out after mail for 2 years, because it was too far to walk. Now?
Ladders say it all. Climbing like a monkey.
Enjoying life FOR ONCE.

@insanepain thank you kindly, suffered many years, zero meds now, true freedom.
Zero dr appt after 150-200/year.
Want others to at least look at this because it DOES matter, regardless of what the scans say.
Was using a cane wondering how long before a walker. Seriously.

Look up videos (YouTube) and articles regarding the work of Dr. Howard Schubiner and Alan Gordon. It's about a technique named Pain Reprocessing Therapy.
Books "Unlearn your pain" by HS and "The way out" by AG are an eye opener and frankly mind blowing.
The basic idea of PRT is that chronic pain is NOT due to any physical injury but actually neuroplastic (learned) pathways in the brain that create pain in the absence of injury. Since they're learned, they can be "unlearned".

Prayers you get some pain relief and negative results regarding possible breast cancer.Living with chronic pain is hard.
I know how you feel about having chronic pain and especially in the back. I can also relate to the change in diagnosis. I recently suffered a severe bout with my lower back that was also causing sciatic pain in my right hip. I eventually received steroid injections in my lower back. The shots did help but I am still having (2mos later) the intense right hip pain. They originally said the hip pain was referred pain from my lower back due to the sciatic pain. Now the dr is saying he thinks it is bursitis in my hip. 🤦‍♀️ I guess that’s why they call it “practicing medicine.”
I am about to start physical therapy and I’m praying that eventually I will get some relief.
I hope and pray you are better soon.
Helen

You may want to try out this book chapters 6-8.
Game changer.
I am not same person I was starting 2026.
Now have no doctors no meds and having time of life jumping around like a jackrabbit at 57 after being housebound for years.
Used a cane to get to bathroom level of crippled up.
Canes went in trash long ago.
Now like yesterday spent all day on feet working on car and h house.
Last year couldn't stand long enough to make food. Anything beyond a minute was a no-go.

God is good and He has many tools, this is one of them.
If you are a chronic pain sufferer and HAVEN'T read this book, you are seriously missing out on improving your own medical care substantially.
No tricks/gimmicks/psychobabble bs, just science.
Hope everyone gets a copy

Was disability retired at 50, 57 now and it was a steady decline until only option left was an ultrasound guided pain shot that they do in hospital.
Then found this book, and things slowly started changing and didnt know why.
You could bring me to my knees just poking one pressure point. Was never NOT like that.
Driving more than a few miles was hell.
Just came back from a 5 hour stretch of errands, drive however long, and park as far away as possible for exercise.
Plus am a help to people and not a burden.
You cannot go wrong with the book.
Plus I had God on my side so that too 🙂
